Job Summary
Sr Software Engineer B2 will design and implement scalable enterprise applications using modern Java and Python stacks with microservices patterns on GCP. The role focuses on building resilient Kafka based integrations optimizing SQL data access and enhancing Spring Boot services to support critical business platforms in a hybrid work model.
Responsibilities
DISTRIBUTED SYSTEMS DEEP
Designs systems that are correct under partial failure and knows the failure modes of event driven choreography including out of order delivery duplicate events poison pills and consumer group rebalance.
Has deep experience with Kafka or equivalent durable event logs including topic partitioning strategy compacted topics consumer group semantics exactly once producers transactional producers and consumers and tiered storage trade offs.
Designs two bus architectures with a low latency real time bus such as NATS JetStream alongside a durable ordered log connected through a transactional outbox.
Has experience with backpressure flow control and throughput tuning in event driven pipelines.
Defines and enforces canonical event contracts including schemas versioning and anti corruption layers at partner boundaries.
EVENT SOURCING CQRS AND DOMAIN PATTERNS EXPERT
Designs event sourced aggregates from scratch using the event stream as the source of truth fold over stream for current state snapshot strategies and schema evolution.
Has a deep understanding of aggregates as write side consistency boundaries and ensures commands pass through aggregates.
Designs CQRS read models that consume from event logs with projection rebuild catch up subscriptions and consistency guarantees.
Designs and implements saga patterns for irreversible multi step commits such as payment to policy number to issued fact with idempotency keys compensation registration and retry semantics.
Defines optimistic concurrency strategies at the aggregate level using version checks and rejection handling for stale duplicate and out of order requests.
OPERATOR AND RECONCILIATION PATTERNS
Designs application level reconciliation loops using desired state versus actual state in a relational ledger.
Understands Kubernetes Operator concepts including custom resource definitions controllers reconcile loops and leader election.
Designs configuration distribution and readiness acknowledgement interfaces.
Defines self validating readiness where components verify readiness and provide accurate status signals.
API CONTRACTS AND DATA FORMATS
Designs AI native REST APIs using JSON Schema and OpenAPI with context carrying and agent consumable structures.
Understands JSON LD and linked data principles for self describing machine authorable documents.
Designs JSONata transform pipelines so mapping changes are configuration changes and do not require redeployment.
Defines CloudEvents standards including metadata trace context propagation event typing versioning and routing conventions.
SECURITY ARCHITECTURE
Designs zero trust service meshes with mutual TLS and identity at every hop.
Architects hybrid authorisation using OAuth2 and OpenID Connect at the edge and fine grained authorisation within aggregates.
Designs User Resource Permission models with role action resource and state based authorisation.
Defines PII and PHI classification at the data model level with masking and exclusion from logs and exports.
AI INTEGRATION ARCHITECTURE
Designs embedded AI agents that generate component configuration from blueprint intent.
Designs AI native APIs with context carrying schemas that support reasoning over the data model.
Understands provider configurable large language model backends including OpenAI Anthropic Azure OpenAI and Bedrock.
Has experience with structured output tool calling multi step agent workflows and human in the loop review processes.
LANGUAGES AND POLYGLOT ARCHITECTURE
Proficient in two or more of Java 17 or above Kotlin Go TypeScript with Node.js and Python.
Can justify language choices based on runtime requirements and use cases.
Defines shared runtime patterns across languages while allowing language specific implementation details.
INFRASTRUCTURE AND PLATFORM ENGINEERING
Designs Kubernetes native deployments including stateful and stateless services autoscaling and singleton workers.
Defines cloud agnostic infrastructure using interfaces for messaging databases object storage key management and secret storage.
Creates Infrastructure as Code using Terraform Helm and Kustomize.
Designs observability using OpenTelemetry with tracing metrics and logs while maintaining privacy controls.
TESTING AND QUALITY
Designs integration test frameworks that run against real event backbones.
Defines contract testing for canonical event boundaries as part of continuous integration.
Defines AI generated end to end scenario suites as release quality gates.
Uses mutation testing and property based testing for complex domain logic.
NICE TO HAVE
Experience in the insurance domain including quote bind issue endorse renew and cancel lifecycle processes.
Experience with NATS JetStream alongside Kafka.
Experience designing and operating large scale event sourced systems.
Familiarity with ACORD standards and insurance data exchange formats.
Experience with multi region and cell based deployments.
Experience with SOC 2 GDPR DPDP or similar compliance frameworks.
Experience designing configurable multi tenant role based access control systems.
Design and implement scalable microservices using Java 17 and Spring Boot to support high volume transactional workloads and enhance platform reliability and performance.
Develop and optimise Kafka based event streaming solutions that enable robust data pipelines and near real time processing for critical business services.
Create well structured backend components in Core Java and Python that follow clean code practices to ensure maintainability and ease of enhancement.
Collaborate with product and architecture teams to translate complex business requirements into technical designs that drive measurable value.
Optimise SQL queries and database schemas to improve response times reduce resource consumption and maintain consistency.
Integrate microservices with internal and external systems through secure and well documented APIs.
Conduct comprehensive unit and integration testing to validate functionality and maintain code quality.
Analyse production issues in distributed systems by reviewing logs and metrics to identify root causes and implement preventive fixes.
Apply best practices for performance tuning caching strategies and resource management.
Work closely with security and compliance stakeholders to implement secure coding practices and protect data integrity.
Document technical designs service contracts and deployment procedures to support knowledge sharing.
Support continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines by improving build automation and deployment processes.
Contribute to innovation efforts by evaluating emerging frameworks and patterns in microservices and event driven architectures.
Qualifications
Demonstrate extensive hands on experience with Java 17 and Core Java building and maintaining complex backend services in enterprise environments.
Show strong proficiency with Spring Boot based microservices.
