Backend Developer
About the role
As a Senior Backend Developer, you will make an impact by designing, developing, and maintaining scalable backend services for a clinical protocol authoring platform used to create, review, approve, version, and publish structured clinical protocols. You will be a valued member of the Life Sciences technology team and collaborate with product managers, clinical domain experts, UX designers, architects, and engineering teams to deliver secure, high-quality, and compliant solutions.
In this role, you will:
- Design, develop, and maintain backend services, APIs, integrations, and data models supporting clinical protocol authoring workflows.
- Build scalable solutions for content management, workflow orchestration, collaboration, approvals, versioning, audit trails, search, notifications, and reporting.
- Develop and optimize RESTful APIs and integrations with enterprise platforms, identity providers, document generation services, and clinical systems.
- Implement secure coding practices, authorization controls, audit logging, encryption, and data privacy requirements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality solutions while supporting application performance, reliability, scalability, and maintainability.

What you need to have to be considered
- 6+ years of software engineering experience with strong backend development expertise.
- Hands-on experience developing applications using Java/Spring Boot, .NET, Node.js, Python, or another modern backend technology stack.
- Strong understanding of object-oriented design, API development, microservices, distributed systems, and integration patterns.
- Experience designing and optimizing relational databases, SQL queries, and data models.
- Hands-on experience with REST APIs, JSON, API versioning, event-driven architectures, and asynchronous processing.
- Knowledge of security best practices including OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, RBAC, encryption, authentication, and authorization.
- Experience working with cloud-native platforms, containers, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, and observability tools.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
These will help you stand out
- Experience in Life Sciences, Clinical Development, Regulatory Affairs, or other regulated environments.
- Familiarity with clinical protocol authoring, clinical trial processes, study design, and regulatory workflows.
- Knowledge of industry standards such as ICH M11, CDISC USDM, and structured content management.
- Experience with workflow engines, full-text search technologies, document management, and content platforms.
- Familiarity with GxP, Computer System Validation (CSV), electronic records controls, and data integrity requirements.
- Experience integrating with platforms such as EDC, CTMS, eTMF, RTSM, RIM, or regulatory submission systems.
