Senior Java Software Engineer

About the role

As a Senior Java Engineer, you will make an impact by designing, developing, and enhancing cloud-based card transaction platforms that power critical digital payment services. You will be a valued member of the engineering team, collaborating with product owners, architects, delivery managers, vendors, and fellow engineers to build scalable, resilient, and secure solutions.

In this role, you will:

• Design, develop, and maintain enterprise-grade Java-based microservices and APIs supporting card transaction platforms.

• Build seamless integrations between vendor products and enterprise systems using APIs, file transfer technologies, and identity and access management platforms.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to solve complex technical challenges and deliver innovative solutions.

• Ensure platform reliability, security, and performance through vulnerability remediation, threat modelling, monitoring, and resiliency practices.

• Contribute to Agile delivery teams by developing high-quality code, creating automated tests, and supporting continuous integration and deployment pipelines.

What you need to have to be considered

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

• Strong hands-on experience with Java, Spring Framework, Spring Boot, and microservices architecture.

• Experience developing and consuming RESTful web services and APIs.

• Knowledge of containerised and cloud-based environments, including OpenShift, AWS, or Azure.

• Experience with modern software development practices, including Agile methodologies, CI/CD pipelines, Git, Maven, and automated testing.

Additional eligibility requirements:

• Candidates must currently reside in the UK.

• Candidates must be available to start within eight weeks of receiving an offer.
  

These will help you stand out

• Experience with event-driven architectures using Kafka, Solace, or MQ technologies.

• Familiarity with reactive programming frameworks such as Spring WebFlux, RXJava, or Vert.x.

• Knowledge of GraphQL and modern API design principles.

• Experience working with relational and NoSQL databases, including Oracle, PostgreSQL, Couchbase, Cassandra, or MongoDB.

• Expertise in application monitoring, performance optimisation, observability, and distributed systems design.
