Senior RPG Developer (IBM i / AS400)

About the role

As a Senior RPG Developer (IBM i / AS400), you will make an impact by developing, enhancing, and supporting enterprise applications on the IBM i / AS400 platform, with a focus on RPG development, DB2 for i, and JDE integrations. You will collaborate with business and technical teams to deliver reliable application enhancements, integrations, and production solutions.

In this role, you will:

• Develop, enhance, test, and maintain applications using RPG, RPG IV, RPGILE free format, and SQLRPGLE on IBM i / AS400.
• Develop new application functionality and enhance existing programs based on business requirements and technical specifications.
• Build and maintain embedded SQL and DB2 for i solutions, including data processing, validation, stored procedures, and performance optimization.
• Develop and support integrations between IBM i / AS400 applications, JDE, and related enterprise systems, including data mapping, transformation, validation, and reconciliation.
• Troubleshoot production issues involving RPG applications, SQL queries, batch jobs, data discrepancies, interfaces, and JDE integrations.

Based on this role’s business requirements, this is a hybrid position requiring 2-3 days a week in a client or Cognizant office in Dallas, Texas. What you need to have to be considered

• 6+ years of experience
• Strong hands-on experience with RPG, RPG IV, RPGILE, RPGILE free format, and SQLRPGLE development.
• Strong knowledge of IBM i / AS400, including libraries, objects, job queues, output queues, CL programs, commands, and job scheduling.
• Experience with DB2 for i and embedded SQL, including stored procedures, indexes, views, joins, triggers, and SQL performance tuning.
• Experience with IBM i development concepts, including DDS, physical and logical files, display files, subfiles, data areas, data queues, and message queues.
• Experience analyzing and maintaining legacy RPG applications, including modernization to RPGILE free format, along with experience supporting enterprise application integrations and batch processing.

These will help you stand out

• Experience integrating IBM i / AS400 applications with JDE and an understanding of JDE data structures, interfaces, and transaction flows.
• Experience with IBM i development and debugging tools such as RDi, SEU, SDA, PDM, WRK commands, STRDBG, job logs, and spool files.
• Knowledge of FTP/SFTP, IFS, middleware integrations, file transfers, and automated job processing.
• Experience optimizing RPG and SQLRPGLE applications for performance, reliability, and maintainability.
• Experience supporting system integration testing, regression testing, and user acceptance testing.

Salary and Other Compensation:
The annual salary for this position depends on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate. This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
