About the role
As a Senior Android Software Engineer, you will make an impact by leading the architecture, development, and maintenance of high‑performance Android mobile applications, directly contributing to CNN’s digital experience and supporting the organization’s mobile strategy. You will be a valued member of the Engineering Team and work collaboratively with Product, Design, Delivery, Editorial, and Engineering teams, providing technical direction, mentoring, and the ability to tackle highly complex challenges.
In this role, you will:
1. Architect and develop intuitive, simple, and elegantly designed Android applications that deliver innovative user experiences.
2. Create, support, and enhance software tools and pipelines that strengthen the mobile platform and CNN’s digital ecosystem.
3. Collaborate closely with cross‑functional teams (Product, Design, Delivery, Editorial, Engineering) to implement digital solutions and consumer‑facing app features.
4. Address production issues, conduct root‑cause analysis, and resolve complex technical problems.
5. Maintain and evolve existing systems, ensuring stability, scalability, security, and performance.
6. Provide mentorship to junior developers, promoting scalable, high‑quality engineering practices.
7. Ensure compliance with technical standards, including architecture, security, monitoring, testing, logging, and CNN Digital engineering guidelines.
Work model: Hybrid

Based on this role’s business requirements, this is a hybrid position requiring 2–3 days per week in a Cognizant or client office located in Argentina. What you need to have to be considered
1. BS/MS in Computer Science (or equivalent).
2. 5+ years of professional experience in mobile software development.
3. Strong foundation in programming fundamentals, including algorithms and data structures.
4. Advanced hands‑on experience developing Android native applications using Kotlin/Java, Jetpack Compose, and modern Android frameworks.
5. Proven experience with design, troubleshooting, root‑cause analysis, and development of scalable solutions.
6. Full mobile‑stack experience: native apps, SDKs, and mobile APIs.
7. Expert knowledge of software development methodologies, architecture, performance, and security for mobile applications.
8. Experience with mobile CI/CD and automation, preferably with Git and Bitrise.
9. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across technical and non‑technical teams.
10. Ability to design flexible software architectures that adapt to changing business needs.
These will help you stand out
1. Knowledge of Cloud Computing platforms, especially AWS.
2. Familiarity with database technologies (SQL/RDBMS, NoSQL, GraphDB).
3. Experience working on high‑traffic digital products.
4. Previous experience in news or media platforms.
5. Participation in the Android community (open source contributions, talks, meetups).
