Cognizant’s Digital Engineering practice is seeking a highly qualified Senior Backend Developer with Java and Azure/AWS experience. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 8+ years of experience developing and building high‑performing, scalable enterprise applications.

Location: Toronto, ON, CANADA (Hybrid)

Roles/Responsibilities:
•Design, develop, and maintain high performance backend services using Java and Spring Boot.
•Build scalable microservices architectures and ensure seamless inter service communication.
•Develop and optimize multithreaded and concurrent applications for low latency and high throughput systems.
•Implement event driven architectures leveraging Kafka (or other streaming platforms).
•Design and optimize SQL database schemas, queries, and stored procedures.
•Deploy, monitor, and manage services on Azure or AWS cloud platforms.
•Collaborate with cross functional teams (frontend, DevOps, QA, product).
•Define and enforce best practices in coding, architecture, and performance optimization.
•Troubleshoot production issues and implement robust solutions.
•Participate in code reviews and provide mentorship to junior developers.
Required Qualifications:
•8+ years of hands-on experience in backend development.
•Strong proficiency in Java (8/11/17) with deep understanding of OOP and design patterns.
•Expertise in multithreading, concurrency models, and performance tuning.
•Solid experience with Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Data, and related frameworks.
•Proven experience building secure, scalable microservices architectures.
•Hands-on knowledge of Apache Kafka (producers, consumers, topics, partitions, schema registry, etc.).
•Strong experience with SQL databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, or similar).
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, basic DevOps practices, and cloud fundamentals (AWS/Azure/GCP preferred).
•Working knowledge of Azure or AWS cloud services (Lambda, ECS, AKS, EC2, S3, RDS, etc.).
•Experience with CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps).
•Strong problem-solving and debugging skills.
Salary and Other Compensation:

The annual salary for this position is between $ 74,250– $ 117,500 CAD depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
