Cognizant’s Digital Engineering practice is seeking a highly qualified Java Senior Backend Engineer (Hybrid) with 7+ year of experience developing and building high-performing, scalable, enterprise applications. Roles/Responsibilities:
- Develop applications using Java, Springboot and microservices with a strong focus on analytics, optimization, and high‑quality testing.
- Implement event‑driven architectures using Apache Kafka for real‑time data streaming.
- Develop Kafka producers, consumers, and stream processing applications.
- Integrate Kafka with Spring Boot / Spring Kafka–based microservices.
- Lead medium to large-scale engineering initiatives by translating business requirements into technical designs, writing robust code, and delivering projects on schedule.
- Provide technical leadership to small and distributed teams by reviewing designs, conducting code reviews, and guiding best development practices.
- Diagnose and resolve production issues through detailed root‑cause analysis and implement long-term, sustainable fixes.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to clarify technical requirements, support business objectives, and drive architectural decisions.
- Mentor team members, enhance engineering practices, and promote compliance with organizational policies while fostering a culture of accountability and integrity.
Required Qualifications:
- 7+ years of experience
· Strong proficiency in Core Java, J2EE, and modern Java frameworks such as Spring and Spring Boot. · Proven experience designing and developing large-scale, high‑performance microservices architectures. · Deep expertise with NoSQL databases including Cosmos DB and MongoDB, and hands-on experience with Kafka for distributed messaging. · Practical experience with cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform (GCP), including architecture and deployment. · Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines, with experience troubleshooting build failures, test errors, and deployment issues. |
- Strong architectural knowledge of building resilient, scalable systems, combined with experience in analytics implementations such as Adobe Analytics.
Salary and Other Compensation:

The annual salary for this position is between $ 60,000- $ 93,500 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
