We are seeking an experienced SDET Automation Test Engineer with strong Java Programming skills to design, develop, and maintain automated testing frameworks. The role focuses on designing, developing, and maintaining automated test cases for our banking clients.
In this role, you will
- Design, develop, and execute automated test scripts for web applications using Selenium WebDriver with Java and Cucumber BDD.
- Automating UI and API test scenarios to improve test coverage, accuracy, and execution efficiency.
- Conduct API testing using REST Assured, ReadyAPI, REST/SOAP services.
- Develop Rest API automation scripts using Rest Assured framework.
- Review and analyze test execution results, identify defects, and debug and fix issues in the automation framework and test scripts.
- Integrate automation suites with CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab, etc.).
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams in an Agile/Scrum environment to deliver high-quality software solutions.
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders to provide updates on testing progress and quality metrics.
Required skills
- Overall 6-10 years of hands-on experience in automation testing for banking projects.
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on automation experience using Java, Selenium, Junit, TestNG, Maven, BDD Cucumber framework.
- Must be proficient in Java (OOPs, Collections, Multithreading, Exception Handling) and modern Java versions (8+).
- Must have good experience with Rest Assured for API automation testing.
- Knowledge of API testing concepts (status codes, headers, payloads, authentication: OAuth, JWT, Basic Auth).
- CI/CD pipeline building experience through GITLAB, Jenkins, or Maven.
- Experience with bug tracking and test management tools like JIRA, TestRail, or Zephyr.
Preferred skills
- Banking domain experience is highly preferred.
- Good understanding of SQL database technologies.

Total compensation:
We regularly assess market data to ensure we offer a competitive compensation package for our associates. The base salary for this position ranges between CAD 70,000 – 90,000 per year. Where the successful candidate may fall within the range depends on relevant education, work and/or management experience and other business-related and job-necessary qualifications. This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual performance-based bonus, as well as benefits that support your physical, mental and financial wellbeing.
Working arrangements
We believe hybrid work is the way forward as we strive to provide flexibility wherever possible. Based on this role’s business requirements, this is a hybrid position requiring 4 days a week in a client or Cognizant office in Toronto, province.
