Microsoft 365 L3 Engineer

As an M365 L3 Engineer, you will architect, administer, and continuously improve our Microsoft 365 collaboration ecosystem, with a focus on SharePoint/OneDrive, Microsoft Teams, Viva Insights, and Security & Compliance. You will work at the intersection of engineering depth and enterprise scale, balancing rigorous security governance with exceptional employee experience.

Responsibilities:

SharePoint & OneDrive

Design, implement, and govern SharePoint Online site architectures and OneDrive configuration across large commercial tenants (50K+ users).

Lead information architecture initiatives including taxonomy, metadata strategies, content types, and hub site design.

Automate lifecycle management, provisioning workflows, and governance policies using PowerShell and Microsoft Graph API.

Manage storage quotas, sharing policies, external access controls, and tenant-wide configuration changes.

Drive adoption of SharePoint Syntex, Viva Connections, and modern communication/team sites.

Microsoft Teams

Administer and optimize Microsoft Teams at enterprise scale including policies, calling plans, and telephony integrations.

Govern Teams lifecycle management — creation, archival, membership, and naming conventions — through automated pipelines.

Design and enforce meeting policies, live event configurations, and room/device management.

Integrate Teams with third-party platforms, bots, and custom apps while ensuring security compliance.

Troubleshoot complex Teams voice, meeting quality, and federation issues in collaboration with network and AV teams.

Viva Insights

Deploy, configure, and manage Microsoft Viva Insights at the tenant level, including advanced and manager insights.

Partner with HR, People Analytics, and business leaders to deliver privacy-safe workforce analytics and wellbeing programs.

Build and maintain Viva Insights queries, organizational data uploads, and dashboard configurations.

Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations (GDPR, CCPA) in the context of employee analytics.

Drive organizational change management and adoption programs around Viva Insights capabilities.

Security & Compliance

Own and manage Microsoft Purview configurations including DLP policies, retention labels, sensitivity labels, and eDiscovery.

Conduct regular compliance audits, policy reviews, and risk assessments across the M365 collaboration surface.

Implement and govern Conditional Access policies, privileged identity management, and least-privilege access models.

Monitor Microsoft Secure Score, act on recommendations, and produce executive-level compliance reporting.

Collaborate with Legal, Privacy, and InfoSec teams to respond to eDiscovery requests and regulatory inquiries.

Required Qualifications

7+ years of hands-on experience administering Microsoft 365 at enterprise scale (large commercial tenants, 10K+ users).

Deep technical expertise in SharePoint Online and OneDrive administration, including information architecture and governance.

Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Teams administration, voice/telephony, and policy management.

Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Purview (formerly Compliance Center) — DLP, retention, sensitivity labels, eDiscovery.

Hands-on experience with Viva Insights configuration, org data management, and privacy-safe analytics delivery.

Strong scripting skills: PowerShell, Microsoft Graph API; experience with automation frameworks.

Experience with Azure Active Directory / Entra ID, Conditional Access, and role-based access management.

Solid understanding of zero-trust security principles applied to collaboration platforms.

Preferred Qualifications

• Microsoft certifications: MS-700 (Teams), MS-721 (Collaboration Communications), SC-400 (Compliance), or equivalent.

• Experience managing M365 in regulated industries or environments with strict compliance requirements.

• Familiarity with Power Platform (Power Automate, Power Apps) as they integrate within the M365 ecosystem.

• Exposure to Microsoft Copilot for M365 rollout, governance frameworks, and readiness assessments.

• Experience with ITSM tools and change management processes (e.g., ServiceNow platform).

The annual salary for this position is between $79,240– $131,500 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.

This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and is subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
