Job Title: Splunk Engineer

Job Location: Remote- Halifax, NS, Canada

We are looking for an experienced Splunk Cloud Engineer to join our Splunk implementation and support team. In this role, you will be responsible for the development, communication, implementation, and ongoing support of a high-volume, multi-terabyte-per-day Splunk Cloud environment. You will drive new data integrations, ensure platform reliability, and serve as a subject matter expert across the organization.

In this role, you will

· Design, deploy, and administer a Splunk AWS Cloud cluster capable of handling terabytes of daily log ingestion, currently exceeding 400 TB per day across multiple large-scale implementations.

· Lead new data point integration and ingestion using APIs, HTTP Event Collector (HEC), and third-party data streaming tools to expand platform coverage and data visibility.

· Install, configure, and maintain Splunk Universal Forwarders across Application, Web, and Database server environments to ensure seamless and reliable data collection.

· Perform version upgrades, patch installations, and vulnerability remediation across Splunk infrastructure, software, technical apps, and add-ons, maintaining a secure and up-to-date environment.

· Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation of Splunk infrastructure procedures and write automation scripts to streamline and optimize administration activities.

· Define, measure, and report key performance indicators (KPIs) to reflect platform health and build proactive monitoring to ensure Splunk infrastructure operates at maximum efficiency 24x7.

· Examine, test, and implement Splunk technical apps and add-ons; optimize Search Processing Language (SPL) queries and coach Splunk best practices to end users across the organization.

· Participate in on-call rotation to respond to Splunk-related incidents, resolving or escalating issues in a timely manner and working directly with Splunk Support where required.

· Provide internal consultation services to application and security teams; deliver clear explanations on complex issues and lead executive-level communications on platform strategy and business value.

· Research, evaluate, and recommend new technologies and use cases to continuously maximize Splunk performance, business value, and alignment with evolving organizational needs.

Preferred Skills

• Hands-on experience with Splunk Cloud or Splunk Enterprise at scale (100+ TB/day ingestion), including cluster administration, index management, and performance tuning in AWS-hosted environments.

• Proficiency in data integration technologies such as HEC, REST APIs, and streaming platforms (e.g., Kafka, Kinesis), combined with scripting skills in Python, Bash, or PowerShell for automation.

• Strong knowledge of Splunk Search Processing Language (SPL), dashboarding, alerting, and the Splunk app/add-on ecosystem, with experience coaching end users and application teams on best practices.

• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for executive audiences and drive cross-functional collaboration on platform strategy.
