Serve as a Sr Developer for hybrid delivery projects using Liferay core Java J2EE JavaScript CSS and HTML to design build and enhance scalable digital portals for enterprise clients ensuring high quality code maintainability and performance while mentoring developers and collaborating with cross functional teams to deliver secure and user centric solutions.

Salary and Other Compensation:

The annual salary for this position is between $60,000/Year to $72,000/Year depending on the experience and other qualifications of the candidate.

This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program and stock awards, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement robust portal solutions using Liferay and core Java to meet complex business requirements while maintaining high standards of performance and security.
  • Develop intuitive front end components using JavaScript CSS and HTML to deliver accessible and responsive user interfaces for enterprise web applications.
  • Configure and extend Liferay modules and portlets to support custom workflows content management needs and integration with existing enterprise systems.
  • Analyze business and technical requirements to translate them into detailed low level designs technical specifications and implementation plans for the development team.
  • Review code produced by the team to ensure adherence to coding standards maintainability guidelines and secure development practices across Java and JavaScript components.
  • Collaborate with architects business analysts and quality specialists to refine solution designs and clarify functional scenarios in a hybrid work model.
  • Optimize application performance by profiling Java and Liferay components tuning queries and refining caching strategies to ensure consistently fast response times.
  • Coordinate issue resolution during system and user testing by investigating defects identifying root causes and implementing durable fixes in a structured manner.
  • Guide the adoption of reusable components shared libraries and best practices for portal development to reduce delivery effort and improve long term maintainability.
  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation including design notes configuration details and deployment guidelines to support smooth operations and knowledge transfer.
  • Work closely with operations and infrastructure teams to support deployment activities in day shift schedules and ensure stable operation across environments.
  • Engage with stakeholders to clarify functional edge cases related to potential claims domain scenarios and align technical behavior with regulatory and compliance expectations where applicable.
  • Mentor junior developers by sharing practical techniques for Liferay customization clean Java coding and effective front end development to elevate overall team capability.


Qualifications

  • Demonstrate six to nine years of progressive experience in enterprise application development with strong focus on Java J2EE and web technologies in complex environments.
  • Show proven hands on expertise in building and customizing Liferay based portal solutions including configuration theming and extension of out of the box features.
  • Exhibit solid proficiency in JavaScript CSS and HTML for creating responsive standards compliant and accessible user interfaces that work across modern browsers.
  • Apply strong understanding of object oriented design principles common design patterns and modular architecture to produce clean and testable Java code.
  • Display familiarity with relational databases basic query optimization and integration patterns used to connect portal solutions with backend services.
  • Bring working knowledge of software development life cycle practices including version control code reviews unit testing and continuous integration in hybrid delivery models.
  • Preferably possess experience in insurance or claims related domains enabling effective understanding of requirements data flows and regulatory considerations.


Certifications Required

Liferay Certified Professional Developer or equivalent Java enterprise certification such as Oracle Certified Professional Java Programmer
