Job Summary:
We are seeking a Data Engineer specializing in Snowflake to own the data platform's storage and compute layer as part of a large-scale data platform modernization for an Australian payments company. This role focuses on Snowflake architecture, DDL design, Dynamic Tables, stored procedures, performance tuning, cost governance, and security (RBAC/ABAC). The ideal candidate is a Snowflake power user who can ensure the platform is performant, secure, and cost-efficient at scale.
Key Responsibilities:
· Design, develop, and optimize Snowflake objects including tables, views, materialized views, Dynamic Tables, stored procedures, tasks, and streams.
· Implement and manage Snowflake role-based access control (RBAC), column-level security, and row-level security policies.
· Tune query performance through clustering, materialization strategies, query profiling, and warehouse sizing.
· Establish cost governance practices including resource monitors, warehouse auto-suspend policies, cost tagging, and usage reporting.
· Design and implement Snowflake data sharing and data marketplace patterns for internal and external consumers.
· Collaborate with Data Architects to implement the medallion architecture (Bronze / Silver / Gold) within Snowflake.
· Support Snowpark-based development for advanced transformations and ML feature engineering.
· Implement schema management, Liquibase / SchemaChange migrations, and CI/CD deployment patterns for Snowflake objects.
· Monitor platform health, query concurrency, and warehouse utilization; troubleshoot performance issues.
Required Skills & Experience:
· Deep expertise in Snowflake architecture, DDL/DML, Dynamic Tables, stored procedures, UDFs, tasks, streams, and Snowpipe.
· Proven experience with Snowflake query optimization, clustering, result caching, and warehouse configuration.
· Hands-on experience implementing RBAC, ABAC, column masking policies, and row access policies in Snowflake.
· Experience establishing resource monitors, warehouse policies, and cost attribution models in Snowflake.
· Expert-level SQL for complex transformations, stored procedures, and administrative scripting.
· Experience with SchemaChange, Liquibase, or equivalent tools for Snowflake object deployment.
· Working knowledge of dimensional and Data Vault 2.0 models implemented in Snowflake.
Preferred Skills (Nice-to-Have):
· Snowflake SnowPro Core or Advanced certification.
· Experience with Snowpark for Python/Scala-based data processing.
· Familiarity with Snowflake Cortex for in-database ML and LLM functions.
· Experience with Apache Iceberg tables in Snowflake.
· Knowledge of Terraform for Snowflake infrastructure-as-code.
· Experience in the payments, fintech, or banking domain.
