Job Summary
This hybrid day shift role seeks a seasoned technical lead with twelve to sixteen years of experience in mainframe application development and maintenance using JCL DB2 and Cobol. The role focuses on designing robust solutions guiding complex technical delivery and ensuring high quality systems that support business critical transactions in a cards and payments environment while maintaining strong cross team collaboration and operational stability.
Responsibilities
- Lead end to end technical design of mainframe applications using JCL DB2 and Cobol to deliver resilient solutions that align with enterprise architecture and performance expectations.
- Drive implementation of complex batch and online processing components that optimize resource usage and ensure timely completion of business critical workloads in a hybrid work model.
- Guide detailed analysis of existing Cobol and DB2 programs to identify optimization opportunities that reduce processing time and enhance overall application stability.
- Coordinate migration and enhancement efforts for legacy components to modernized patterns while preserving data integrity and minimizing disruption to ongoing operations.
- Oversee creation and maintenance of JCL job streams that support reliable scheduling error recovery procedures and capacity planning across day shift operations.
- Provide technical direction to project teams by clarifying requirements decomposing work items and ensuring that development tasks follow coding standards and quality practices.
- Collaborate with business and technology stakeholders to translate functional needs from cards and payments processes into precise technical specifications and data models.
- Ensure rigorous testing strategies by defining test scenarios validating results against expected outcomes and supporting defect triage to uphold production reliability.
- Manage production support activities by analyzing incidents performing root cause assessments and implementing durable fixes that prevent recurrence of issues.
- Promote continuous improvement by recommending tooling enhancements automation of routine tasks and refinements that improve developer efficiency and system observability.
- Support compliance with organizational governance by adhering to secure coding guidelines data handling policies and audit requirements throughout the delivery lifecycle.
- Contribute to knowledge sharing by documenting key solution patterns program flows and operational procedures that enable smoother onboarding and cross team collaboration.
- Engage with cross functional partners to ensure that technical solutions in cards and payments domains contribute to safer transactions and improved experiences for end customers.
Qualifications
- Demonstrate extensive hands on experience in Cobol programming with strong ability to design modular code manage data structures and troubleshoot complex logic across large systems.
- Exhibit deep proficiency in JCL including job configuration conditional processing dataset handling and performance tuning to support reliable batch execution.
- Apply solid practical knowledge of DB2 concepts such as table design indexing strategies query optimization and transaction management to sustain high volume data operations.
- Show familiarity with cards and payments business flows including authorizations settlements and reconciliation processes that enhance domain alignment and solution relevance.
- Maintain strong skills in requirement analysis estimation and documentation that support predictable delivery outcomes and transparent collaboration with stakeholders.
