Senior Databricks Developer – Data Engineering & GenAI

Hybrid Model- Toronto, ON

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Databricks Developer to design, develop, and support modern data and analytics solutions using Databricks, PySpark, Python, Delta Lake, Amazon S3, and Generative AI technologies. The ideal candidate will play a key role in building scalable data platforms, enabling data-driven decision-making, and delivering innovative analytics solutions that support business objectives. This role requires strong technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams in a hybrid work environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines and analytics solutions using Databricks, Python, PySpark, and SQL.
  • Build and optimize Delta Lake architectures to ensure reliable, high-performance, and governed data platforms.
  • Implement and manage Unity Catalog to maintain data governance, security, lineage, and access controls.
  • Develop and support Databricks Workflows to automate and orchestrate complex data processing pipelines.
  • Utilize Databricks CLI and automation tools to streamline deployments and operational processes.
  • Design and maintain secure and efficient Amazon S3 data storage solutions.
  • Support implementation of Generative AI (GenAI) and intelligent data solutions that enhance business insights and process automation.
  • Develop and integrate AI-enabled workflows and components to improve productivity and business value.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders, architects, data scientists, and engineering teams to translate requirements into scalable technical solutions.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize data platforms to ensure performance, reliability, and cost efficiency.
  • Perform code reviews, testing, documentation, and adherence to development best practices.
  • Investigate and resolve production issues while conducting root cause analysis and implementing preventive measures.
  • Mentor junior team members and promote best practices in data engineering, cloud technologies, and AI-driven solutions.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in Data Engineering and Analytics.
  • Strong hands-on experience with:
    • Databricks
    • Python
    • PySpark
    • Databricks SQL
    • Delta Lake
    • Unity Catalog
    • Databricks Workflows
    • Databricks CLI
    • Amazon S3
  • Experience designing and building large-scale data platforms and cloud-based data solutions.
  • Strong knowledge of data governance, data security, and data architecture best practices.
  • Experience with data pipeline optimization, performance tuning, and cost management.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.

This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.

The annual salary for this position is between $11000 - $125,000 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
