About the Role
As a Senior Java Developer, you will make an impact by designing, developing, and modernizing enterprise applications using Java technologies, microservices architecture, and OpenText Exstream solutions. You will be a valued member of the engineering team and work collaboratively with business analysts, architects, product owners, offshore teams, vendors, and cross-functional stakeholders to deliver scalable, high-quality technology solutions.
In This Role, You Will
- Lead and mentor a team of Java developers across application development, enhancements, testing, production support, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Design, develop, and enhance enterprise-grade applications using Java, Spring Boot, Spring Batch, REST APIs, and microservices architecture.
- Build and maintain batch processing solutions, data transformation services, XML-to-JSON conversion capabilities, and integration components.
- Develop and support OpenText Exstream solutions for document composition, customer communication management, print workflows, and archival integrations.
- Drive CI/CD implementation, release management, cloud migration, deployment automation, version upgrades, and platform modernization initiatives while promoting engineering best practices.

Based on this role’s business requirements, this is a hybrid position requiring 2-3 days a week in a client or Cognizant office in Calgary, Alberta. What You Need to Have to Be Considered
- 8+ years of experience in software development with strong expertise in Java, J2EE, Spring Boot, Spring Batch, REST APIs, and microservices.
- Hands-on experience developing and supporting enterprise applications, including production deployments, troubleshooting, performance optimization, and issue resolution.
- Strong experience with OpenText Exstream or HP Exstream customer communication management platforms.
- Proficiency in Oracle, PL/SQL, Unix Shell scripting, and relational database technologies including SQL Server and MongoDB.
- Experience with CI/CD and DevOps tools including Git, GitLab, Bitbucket, Jenkins, TeamCity, Maven, Gradle, OpenShift, AWS, and Ansible.
- Experience leading development activities, coordinating cross-functional teams, supporting release management, and collaborating with business and vendor stakeholders.
- Working knowledge of AI-assisted development tools and prompting techniques, including Microsoft Copilot and Claude, as part of the software development lifecycle.
