About the role
As a QA Engineer – API, Database & Batch Testing, you will make an impact by validating backend applications, system integrations, data flows, and batch processes. You will help ensure application quality, data integrity, and reliable end-to-end business operations across enterprise applications. You will work collaboratively with developers, business analysts, product teams, and other quality engineering professionals throughout the software development lifecycle.
In this role, you will:
• Design and execute functional, integration, regression, and end-to-end test cases for REST and SOAP APIs, including validation of request and response payloads, status codes, authentication, error handling, and business rules.
• Validate backend data accuracy, integrity, and consistency using advanced SQL queries across applications, databases, and integrated systems.
• Test stored procedures, functions, views, database validations, and source-to-target data transformations supporting enterprise applications.
• Perform batch and ETL testing to validate scheduled jobs, data processing, data reconciliation, dependencies, exception handling, and downstream results.
• Document defects, maintain test evidence, communicate testing outcomes, and collaborate with Agile delivery teams to support timely resolution of quality issues.

Based on this role’s business requirements, this is a hybrid position requiring 3 days a week in a client or Cognizant office in Lauderdale, FL. What you need to have to be considered
• Strong hands-on experience testing REST and SOAP APIs, including the use of tools such as Postman, Swagger, SoapUI, or Rest Assured.
• Advanced SQL skills and experience performing database testing, backend validation, and data integrity verification using databases such as SQL Server or Oracle.
• Experience with batch testing, ETL testing, source-to-target validation, and data reconciliation.
• Experience testing chatbot functionality, integrations, conversational workflows, and backend responses.
• Understanding of Agile methodologies and experience using defect and work management tools such as Jira or Azure DevOps.
These will help you stand out
• Experience validating scheduled batch processes using Control-M, Airflow, or similar orchestration tools.
• Knowledge of API automation, database test automation, and reusable testing frameworks.
• Experience testing complex integrations and data flows across multiple enterprise applications.
• Ability to analyze logs, isolate backend issues, and collaborate with development teams on root-cause analysis.
• Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
