We are seeking a versatile Application Support & Development Engineer with strong hands-on experience in .NET, SQL Server, Web API, and Microsoft Azure. This is not a traditional development-only role. The position combines application development, production support, operational maintenance, ticket-driven work, and technology lifecycle management across our application landscape.
The ideal candidate should possess a strong support attitude, ownership mindset, troubleshooting expertise, and the flexibility to work across development, maintenance, incident resolution, and operational activities while ensuring application stability and service excellence.
In this role, you will
- Develop, enhance, and maintain applications using C#, .NET Framework, .NET Core, ASP.NET MVC, Web API, SQL Server, and Azure services.
- Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve production issues while ensuring service availability and stability.
- Handle ticket-based work including incidents, service requests, defects, changes, and maintenance activities.
- Perform root cause analysis and implement permanent fixes for recurring problems.
- Design, develop, and support RESTful APIs and backend services.
- Create and optimize SQL Server queries, stored procedures, functions, and database objects.
- Support application deployments, releases, patching, and environment maintenance activities.
- Participate in Technology Lifecycle Management (TLM) initiatives, including upgrades, remediation, and end-of-life transitions.
- Support vulnerability remediation and security compliance efforts in partnership with infrastructure and security teams.
- Develop automation scripts and tools to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual effort.
- Monitor application and Azure resource health and proactively address issues.
- Maintain technical documentation, support runbooks, troubleshooting guides, and knowledge articles.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies, code reviews, testing activities, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Provide timely communication, status updates, escalation management, and stakeholder coordination.
- Take end-to-end ownership of incidents, service requests, defects, and enhancement activities.
- Balance development work with production support, troubleshooting, operational maintenance, and documentation.
- Work across multiple applications and technologies based on account priorities.
- Collaborate effectively with application, infrastructure, database, cloud, and security teams.

What you need to have to be considered:
- 6+ years of experience in application development, maintenance, and production support using Microsoft technologies.
- Strong hands-on experience with C#, .NET Framework, .NET Core, ASP.NET MVC, and Web API.
- Strong proficiency in SQL Server, including complex SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, performance tuning, query optimization, and troubleshooting.
- Experience working with Microsoft Azure services and cloud-based application support.
- Experience with Azure App Services, Azure SQL Database, Azure Storage, Azure Key Vault, and monitoring tools.
- Experience managing incidents, requests, defects, and operational support activities through ticketing platforms.
- Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills across application, API, database, and cloud environments.
- Experience with Azure DevOps, Git, CI/CD pipelines, and release management processes.
- Understanding of application security, vulnerability remediation, software upgrades, and lifecycle management.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within cross-functional teams.
- Flexibility to support both project development and operational priorities.

- Experience supporting healthcare, insurance, or enterprise-scale applications.
- Knowledge of ServiceNow or similar ITSM platforms.
- Experience with automation using PowerShell, C#, Python, or similar scripting technologies.
- Exposure to microservices architecture and API integrations.
- Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, SonarQube, and security scanning tools.
- Microsoft Azure certifications are preferred.
- Experience supporting applications hosted in hybrid cloud environments.

Total compensation:
We regularly assess market data to ensure we offer a competitive compensation package for our associates. The base salary for this position ranges between CAD 75,000 – 95,000 per year. Where the successful candidate may fall within the range depends on relevant education, work and/or management experience and other business-related and job-necessary qualifications. This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual performance-based bonus, as well as benefits that support your physical, mental and financial wellbeing.
