We are looking for an AS400 Developer
Job Summary
Role focuses on designing and delivering AI augmented applications on AS400 platforms using SQLRPGLE and related technologies enabling modern data driven capabilities while maintaining robust legacy workflows. Position targets candidates with 7 to 11 years of experience who can translate supply chain needs into scalable hybrid solutions that enhance business resilience and customer value.
Responsibilities
· Design AI augmented application components on AS400 platforms to modernize existing RPG based systems while ensuring stable and predictable business operations across the hybrid work model.
· Develop and optimize SQLRPGLE and RPGLE programs to support complex transactional workflows and reporting needs with particular emphasis on data integrity and predictable performance.
· Configure and enhance AS400 utilities to streamline batch processes file handling and job scheduling so that core enterprise processes operate reliably during day shifts.
· Create and maintain AS400 CL programs to orchestrate business jobs automate operational routines and reduce manual interventions for application users.
· Collaborate with functional partners to understand supply chain or enterprise process needs and translate them into robust technical designs that align with company standards.
· Integrate AI augmented logic such as rule based recommendations and predictive signals into existing RPG applications to improve planning accuracy and operational decision support.
· Perform detailed code reviews for SQLRPGLE RPG400 and AS400 CL components to ensure adherence to coding guidelines security practices and long term maintainability.
· Conduct impact analysis unit testing and system testing for new features and enhancements so that deployments occur with minimal risk to live operations.
· Coordinate with infrastructure and database teams to manage AS400 environments tune queries and ensure sufficient capacity for current and projected workloads.
· Prepare technical documentation for programs interfaces and job flows so that knowledge is clearly captured and reusable across global teams.
· Provide production support during agreed hours by investigating incidents performing root cause analysis and implementing durable corrective actions.
· Partner with data and analytics teams to expose AS400 data for downstream AI and reporting solutions while maintaining compliance and governance requirements.
· Engage with stakeholders to identify continuous improvement opportunities in supply chain or core business processes and propose AI augmented solutions that deliver measurable value.
Qualifications
· Possess 7 to 11 years of hands on experience in SQLRPGLE RPGLE and RPG400 programming with strong understanding of modular design and structured development practices.
· Demonstrate practical experience with AS400 utilities including file handling job management and system tools that support reliable enterprise operations.
· Exhibit strong proficiency in developing and maintaining AS400 CL programs used to control batch workflows interfaces and operational procedures.
· Apply understanding of AI augmentation concepts such as data driven recommendations and pattern detection to enhance traditional RPG based applications.
· Utilize knowledge of supply chain management processes such as order fulfillment inventory control and logistics as a desirable domain skill for solution design.
· Communicate effectively with technical and business partners in a hybrid work model while managing tasks independently and coordinating within distributed teams.
· Show commitment to quality practices including peer review test planning and documentation ensuring that every change contributes to system stability and business outcomes.
Certifications Required
IBM Certified Specialist Power Systems or equivalent certification on IBM i platform is preferred for this role.
