About the Role
As a Java Backend Developer, you will make an impact by designing, developing, and enhancing enterprise-grade microservices and backend applications that support critical business platforms. You will be a valued member of the engineering team and work collaboratively with product owners, architects, developers, QA teams, and client stakeholders to deliver scalable, high-performing solutions.
In this Role, You Will
Develop new features and enhance existing functionality within the FACT Platform's microservices ecosystem.
Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend applications using Java, Spring Boot, and related technologies.
Build and support REST APIs, messaging integrations, and event-driven solutions using Kafka, ActiveMQ, and Apache Camel.
Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve production issues by performing root cause analysis and implementing sustainable solutions.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure high-quality software delivery and adherence to development best practices.

Based on this role's business requirements, this is a hybrid position requiring 3 days per week in a client office in Detroit, MI or Charlotte, NC. What You Need to Have to Be Considered
10+ years of experience in software development or the IT industry.
Strong hands-on experience with Core Java and Java 8 features, including Lambda Expressions, Stream API, Functional Interfaces, Optional, Method References, and Date/Time API.
Strong experience developing enterprise applications using Spring MVC and Spring Boot.
Hands-on experience with Apache Kafka, including producers, consumers, topics, and event-driven architecture.
Experience designing, developing, and consuming RESTful APIs and microservices.
Working knowledge of ActiveMQ messaging concepts, queues, topics, and asynchronous communication patterns.
Experience with Apache Camel for integration, routing, and message processing.
Experience using Maven and/or Gradle for build and dependency management.
Ability to troubleshoot production issues, analyze logs, identify root causes, and provide timely resolutions.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, B.E., B.Tech., or equivalent.
These Will Help You Stand Out
Experience working with AWS cloud services.
Experience supporting large-scale distributed or microservices-based applications.
Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
Experience working in Agile development environments.
Basic Linux administration and command-line troubleshooting experience.

Salary and Other Compensation:
The annual salary for this position is between $90,000 - $102,500, depending on experience and qualifications.
This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to plan terms.
