Senior Quality Engineer (Python, SQL), Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada

As a Senior Quality Engineer, you will lead quality assurance initiatives and collaborate with cross-functional technology teams to ensure the delivery of scalable, high-performance applications and platforms. The candidate will be responsible for building and maintaining automated test solutions to ensure high-quality software delivery. The technology platform spans the breadth of Windows and Linux platforms, Python / Java environments, HDFS, Kafka , MS SQL , Snowflake , Data bricks platforms.

In this role, you will

Automate assigned areas/features using the existing Framework and provide the test estimations, build automation scripts using Python & Unix.
Design and maintain automated test frameworks using Python and Robot Framework.
Ensure comprehensive test coverage for both frontend (UI) and backend (API, database) components.
Perform data validation using SQL DB queries and handling medium to complex queries with ease.
Support the implementation of the QE Program and overall QE process and standards through continuous test execution and reporting.
Leverages the existing automation frameworks, tools and artefacts to ensure the testing process is continuous, comprehensive and fully autonomous.
Implement and manage CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI, or similar.
Responsible for doing hands on testing and day-to-day interaction with a team of QE practitioners, and developers and driving test case for projects/programs.

Required skills

Overall 6-10 years of experience in a QE/test environment with a focus on technical, automated testing in a variety of environments (cloud, distributed and mainframe, business workflows and services/APIs, databases).
Hands-on experience in Python, SQL and Unix testing platform, code reviews prior to code deployments, integration test automation.
Must have 3+ years of Hands-on coding experience in Python.
Must have good experience with SQL database and writing complex SQL queries.
Minimum 2 years of test development experience working on the latest technologies and frameworks.
Strong Experience in a variety of test automation frameworks/tools e.g., (Robot Framework, SoapUI, Selenium, TestNG) and script development using scripting languages (e.g., Perl, Python, Bash, etc.).
Familiarity with Linux/Unix environments and Unix Shell Scripting.
Good knowledge of Testing Life Cycle, Shift left approach and Defect Management processes for application support and development.
Good knowledge with QE Processes, Methodologies and Test Design techniques with hands-on experience on ALM, JIRA and Confluence.

Preferred skills

Experience with banking domain.
Certifications in Python, DevOps, or Cloud technologies are a plus.
Exposure to Gen AI, LLM, Data Engineering.
Experience with Linux and shell scripting.

Total compensation:

We regularly assess market data to ensure we offer a competitive compensation package for our associates. The base salary for this position ranges between CAD 70,000 – 90,000 per year. Where the successful candidate may fall within the range depends on relevant education, work and/or management experience and other business-related and job-necessary qualifications. This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual performance-based bonus, as well as benefits that support your physical, mental and financial wellbeing.

Working arrangements

We believe hybrid work is the way forward as we strive to provide flexibility wherever possible. Based on this role’s business requirements, this is a hybrid position requiring 4 days a week in a client or Cognizant office in Halifax, NS.
