Java Developer
About the role
As a Java Developer, you will make an impact by developing, testing, and delivering secure, high-quality software modules using Java, Spring Boot, PL/SQL, and Oracle technologies. You will be a valued member of an Agile delivery team and work collaboratively with developers, testers, Scrum team members, and other project stakeholders. You will also use AI tools and agentic AI capabilities to support software development activities while maintaining accountability for code quality, security, and successful delivery.

In this role, you will:
- Design, develop, test, and deliver assigned application modules using Java and Spring Boot.
- Build and maintain database components using PL/SQL and Oracle.
- Use AI tools and agentic AI capabilities to support development, testing, troubleshooting, and delivery activities.
- Review code to ensure it meets quality, maintainability, and security standards before delivery.
- Identify and remediate potential code vulnerabilities prior to deployment.
- Participate in Scrum ceremonies, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives.
- Collaborate with cross-functional team members to resolve technical issues and complete sprint commitments.
- Support application deployment and operation within Kubernetes or cloud-based environments.
Work model
We believe hybrid work is the way forward as we strive to provide flexibility wherever possible. Based on this role’s business requirements, this is a hybrid position requiring three days a week in the office in Tempe, Arizona, and two days working from home.

What you need to have to be considered
- Hands-on software development experience using Java.
- Experience developing applications and services with Spring Boot.
- Proficiency in PL/SQL development.
- Experience working with Oracle databases.
- Awareness of artificial intelligence, generative AI, and agentic AI concepts and their application in software engineering.
- Experience with Kubernetes or exposure to a cloud platform.
- Understanding of secure coding, code review, and vulnerability remediation practices.
- Familiarity with Agile and Scrum delivery practices.
These will help you stand out
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools or AI agents during the software development lifecycle.
- Experience deploying or supporting containerized applications.
- Familiarity with cloud-native application development.
- Knowledge of automated testing and continuous integration or continuous delivery practices.
- Ability to work effectively within a cross-functional Agile team.

Salary and Other Compensation: The annual salary for this position is between $ 60,000 to $ 93,500 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
