Oracle APEX Lead / Solution Architect

We are seeking an experienced Oracle APEX Lead / Solution Architect to provide technical leadership for the design, development, modernization, and support of enterprise applications built on the Oracle APEX platform. This role is responsible for defining solution architecture, establishing engineering standards, leading development teams, and ensuring the delivery of secure, scalable, maintainable, and high-quality business solutions.

The ideal candidate will possess strong expertise in Oracle APEX, Oracle Database technologies, application architecture, integrations, and software engineering best practices. Experience supporting regulated environments within the Life Sciences domain is highly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

Solution Architecture & Technical Leadership

  • Lead the architecture, design, development, implementation, and support of Oracle APEX applications.
  • Define and promote architectural standards, reusable components, coding guidelines, and development best practices.
  • Translate business requirements into scalable and sustainable technical solutions.
  • Create and maintain solution architectures, integration designs, deployment models, and technical roadmaps.
  • Conduct design reviews, code reviews, performance assessments, and security reviews to ensure solution quality.
  • Provide technical leadership for modernization initiatives, platform upgrades, and application enhancements.

Application Development & Integration

  • Develop and support Oracle APEX applications utilizing pages, workflows, reports, forms, dynamic actions, shared components, and security models.
  • Design and optimize Oracle database solutions using SQL and PL/SQL.
  • Architect and implement integrations using RESTful services, APIs, ORDS, JSON, and related technologies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate enterprise platforms and business applications.
  • Ensure solutions meet performance, scalability, availability, security, and maintainability requirements.

Delivery & Operational Excellence

  • Support project planning, effort estimation, and technical delivery governance.
  • Drive release readiness activities, deployment planning, validation, and post-production support.
  • Troubleshoot complex application, database, integration, and performance issues.
  • Monitor application health and recommend continuous improvements to operational processes and technical solutions.
  • Establish and track engineering quality metrics and improvement initiatives.

Stakeholder Management & Mentorship

  • Partner with business stakeholders, architects, product owners, development teams, infrastructure teams, and security organizations.
  • Lead technical discussions and communicate solution options, risks, and recommendations to senior stakeholders.
  • Mentor developers and technical leads to strengthen Oracle APEX capabilities across the organization.
  • Support knowledge sharing, technical documentation, and best-practice adoption.

Compliance & Quality

  • Design solutions that support data integrity, security, auditability, and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Apply secure coding standards, access control principles, and risk-based decision making.
  • Collaborate with quality, validation, and compliance teams to ensure adherence to applicable standards and organizational processes.
  • Support audit readiness and controlled software development practices where required.

Required Qualifications

Technical Skills

  • Strong hands-on experience designing and developing applications using Oracle APEX.
  • Advanced expertise in Oracle Database, SQL, and PL/SQL.
  • Experience with Oracle REST Data Services (ORDS), REST APIs, JSON, and integration technologies.
  • Proficiency with HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript for Oracle APEX customization.
  • Experience implementing authentication, authorization, role-based access control, and secure coding practices.
  • Experience with source control systems, CI/CD processes, release management, and deployment automation.
  • Strong understanding of database performance tuning, indexing strategies, data modeling, and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to define and validate non-functional requirements, including security, scalability, performance, and availability.

Leadership Skills

  • Proven experience leading solution architecture and technical delivery activities.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Experience leading geographically distributed teams and driving technical decisions.
  • Ability to influence architectural direction and guide development best practices.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting applications within the Life Sciences, Pharmaceutical, Clinical, Manufacturing, or other regulated industries.
  • Knowledge of GxP environments, Computer System Validation (CSV), Data Integrity, Change Control, CAPA, and Audit Readiness.
  • Experience integrating Oracle APEX with cloud platforms, analytics solutions, enterprise middleware, identity management systems, or document management platforms.
  • Familiarity with scientific or laboratory systems such as ELN, LIMS, QMS, CTMS, eTMF, RIM, or related platforms.
  • Industry certifications in Oracle, Cloud, Architecture, Security, Agile, ITIL, or related disciplines.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • 15+ years of experience in software engineering, enterprise applications, or solution architecture.
  • Extensive experience delivering Oracle APEX solutions across the full software development lifecycle.
  • Demonstrated experience leading large-scale, complex technology initiatives and engaging with senior business and technology stakeholders.
  • Experience within Life Sciences or other highly regulated industries preferred.
