About the role
As a Senior AS400 Application Support Engineer, you will make an impact by ensuring the stability, reliability, and continuous enhancement of business-critical applications running on the IBM i (AS400) platform. You will be a valued member of the Application Support team and collaborate with business stakeholders, development teams, and client partners to support enterprise systems while contributing to modernization and transformation initiatives.
In this role, you will:
- Monitor AS400 batch cycles, production jobs, and system performance to proactively identify and resolve issues before they impact business operations.
- Troubleshoot and resolve production incidents, defects, and application issues while meeting established service level agreements.
- Analyze, develop, maintain, and enhance applications using RPGLE, RPG, SYNON, COBOL, CLP, and SQL.
- Collaborate with business users to gather requirements and translate them into technical solutions and specifications.
- Support modernization initiatives by documenting business processes, identifying system gaps, and validating integration processes and data flows.
- Perform data analysis and reconciliation activities to ensure data accuracy across applications and reporting environments.
- Review code changes, provide technical guidance, and support testing, deployment, release, and post-production activities.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to drive operational excellence, continuous improvement, and application reliability.

What you need to have to be considered
- Strong experience supporting and maintaining IBM i (AS400) applications in enterprise environments.
- Hands-on experience with RPGLE, RPG, SYNON, COBOL, CLP, and SQL development and support.
- Experience troubleshooting production incidents, batch processing failures, and application performance issues.
- Experience supporting application integrations, data validation, and production support processes.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues.
- Experience gathering business requirements and translating them into technical solutions.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a remote environment while collaborating with geographically distributed teams.

- Experience supporting retail, merchandising, or supply chain applications.
- Exposure to enterprise application modernization and transformation initiatives.
- Experience mentoring junior developers or support engineers.
- Knowledge of enterprise integration patterns and data migration processes.
- Familiarity with Agile delivery methodologies.
- Experience working within global delivery and onshore-offshore models.

Salary and Other Compensation
The annual salary for this position is between CAD $74,250 and CAD $115,500, depending on experience, skills, qualifications, and other job-related factors. In addition to base salary, eligible associates may participate in Cognizant's discretionary annual incentive program, subject to the terms of the applicable plan. Pay ranges are reviewed regularly and may vary based on geographic location, market conditions, and business needs.
