Subtitle Localization Specialist (English to Portuguese)

Job Summary:
Responsible for translating and localizing subtitles for television shows, films, documentaries, and other media content from English to Portuguese. Ensures linguistic accuracy, cultural relevance, and technical compliance with subtitle standards.
Primary Role & Responsibilities
· The role involves translating spoken English dialogue into Portuguese while preserving tone, context, and cultural nuances.
· Subtitles must be edited to align with audio cues and visual pacing, ensuring readability, timing accuracy, and adherence to formatting standards using industry-standard subtitle editing tools.
· Responsibilities also include proofreading and reviewing subtitles for grammar, spelling, and consistency, and collaborating with quality assurance teams to implement feedback.
· The position requires managing multiple projects, coordinating with project managers and editors, and ensuring all deliverables meet platform-specific technical and linguistic guidelines.
Requirements
Portuguese Proficiency: Native or near-native (European/Portugal-based Portuguese), preferably holding a CAPLE certificate — DAPLE (C1) or DUPLE (C2) — from the Portuguese University ; strong grasp of regional dialects and cultural references
· English Proficiency: Strong comprehension of spoken and written English (upper B2 or C1 level)
Experience: 1–2 years in subtitle translation/editing in Portuguese; familiarity with AI-driven translation / localization tools such as Phrase
Skills: Detail-oriented, deadline-driven, and comfortable with media content
Preferred:
- Degree in Translation, Linguistics, or related field (Portuguese)
- Experience with streaming platforms and accessibility standards
