Design and operate scalable, production‑grade backend systems with a strong emphasis on asynchronous processing, data integrity, observability, performance optimization, and safe deployment practices. This is a hands‑on full‑stack role focused on building modern, cloud‑native applications in a microservices environment.
About the role
We are seeking a hands‑on Full Stack Engineer with strong backend expertise in Python and modern frontend experience using React. The role involves developing, optimizing, and maintaining distributed systems and APIs while collaborating with cross‑functional teams to deliver reliable and scalable solutions.
In this role you will
• Implement features across frontend (React) and backend (Python/FastAPI)
• Design, develop, and maintain RESTful APIs following best practices
• Build asynchronous backend services using Python frameworks such as FastAPI, Django, or Flask
• Optimize API performance, database queries, and UI components
• Work with relational and NoSQL databases to ensure efficient schema design and indexing
• Develop and maintain microservices in distributed system architectures
• Contribute to system design with focus on scalability, performance, and reliability
• Deploy and operate services in production with strong observability and monitoring
• Work with CI/CD pipelines to support safe and automated deployments

What you need to have to be considered
• Strong hands‑on experience with Python (FastAPI, Django, Flask)
• Experience with async programming using async/await
• Expertise in RESTful API design and implementation
• Experience with SQLAlchemy ORM
• Hands‑on experience with modern React using hooks
• Proficiency in JavaScript or TypeScript
• Experience with state management (Redux or Context API)
• Familiarity with Material‑UI or similar component libraries
• Production experience with PostgreSQL, including query optimization
• Experience with MongoDB
• Strong SQL skills including complex queries, indexing, and schema design
• Hands‑on experience with Azure, TKGI, or PCF
• Experience with Docker containerization
• Experience with Kubernetes or EKS
• CI/CD experience using Jenkins, GitLab CI, or GitHub Actions
• Experience working in microservices and distributed systems
• Strong understanding of system design principles and API patterns
These will help you stand out
• Experience integrating AI/ML capabilities into applications
• Familiarity with LangChain or other LLM orchestration frameworks
• Experience with OpenAI or similar LLM APIs
• Experience with graph databases such as Neo4j (Cypher)
• Experience with vector databases including Pinecone, Weaviate, or pgvector

Salary and Other Compensation:
The annual salary for this position is between $83,600 – $129,500 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
