Role: Data Centre Engineer / Data Centre Operations Specialist
Location: Candidates will need to work out of the Client’s office in Milwaukee WI. Remote or Hybrid work is not an option.

About the Role: The Data Centre Engineer is responsible for the operation, maintenance, monitoring, and support of data centre infrastructure, ensuring high availability, performance, and security of IT systems. This role supports servers, storage, networking, power, cooling, and physical infrastructure within the data centre.
Key Responsibilities
Data Centre Operations
Monitor and maintain data centre facilities, including servers, storage, network devices, racks, and cabling
Perform routine health checks, preventive maintenance, and equipment inspections
Handle incident management, troubleshooting hardware and infrastructure issues
Ensure adherence to SLA, uptime, and availability targets
Infrastructure Management
Install, configure, and decommission servers, network devices, and storage systems
Perform rack & stack, cable management, and labeling
Coordinate power, cooling, and space planning
Support virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper‑V, KVM, etc.)
Monitoring & Support
Use monitoring tools to track system performance, capacity, and alerts
Provide 24×7 support through shifts/on‑call rotations (if applicable)
Escalate issues to vendors or engineering teams as required
Participate in change management and maintenance windows
Security & Compliance
Maintain physical security controls (access logs, CCTV, badge access)
Ensure compliance with ISO 27001, SOC, ITIL, or company security policies
Implement and follow data centre safety procedures
Documentation & Reporting
Maintain accurate asset inventory and documentation
Create and update runbooks, SOPs, and incident reports
Support audits and compliance reviews
Required Skills & Qualifications
Strong knowledge of data centre operations and infrastructure
Experience with:
Servers (Dell, HPE, Cisco, etc.)
Networking (TCP/IP, LAN/WAN, switches, routers)
Storage (SAN, NAS)
Virtualization and basic OS administration (Linux/Windows)
Understanding of power systems (UPS, PDU) and cooling systems
Salary and Other Compensation: The annual salary for the position depends on experience and other qualifications. This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
