Senior Java Microservices Engineer
Job Summary
We are seeking a Senior Java Microservices Engineer to design and build resilient, scalable, and secure payment solutions. In this hybrid role, you will leverage Java 17, Spring Boot, Kafka, and SQL to develop high-performance microservices supporting critical card and payment transaction flows for global customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop robust Java 17-based microservices for secure and efficient transaction processing
- Build and enhance RESTful APIs using Spring Boot and Spring MVC
- Architect and optimize Kafka-based event-driven systems for real-time data processing
- Develop efficient SQL queries, schemas, and data access layers ensuring data integrity and performance
- Perform unit, integration, and contract testing to maintain high-quality standards
- Collaborate with product and architecture teams to design scalable payment solutions
- Troubleshoot production issues, conduct root cause analysis, and implement preventive fixes
- Ensure secure coding practices and compliance with data protection standards
- Optimize application performance including JVM tuning and service refactoring
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines for reliable and frequent releases
- Create and maintain technical documentation and service runbooks
- Mentor junior engineers and promote best practices
- Engage stakeholders to align on technical solutions and business needs
Required Qualifications
- 5–10 years of experience in backend development with strong Java expertise
- Proficiency in Java 17 (streams, concurrency, memory management)
- Strong experience with Spring Boot and Spring MVC
- Hands-on experience building microservices and REST APIs
- Solid understanding of Kafka and event-driven architecture
- Advanced SQL skills (schema design, indexing, query optimization)
- Experience working with distributed systems and resiliency patterns
- Familiarity with card and payment domain (authorization, clearing, settlement) is a plus
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work effectively in a hybrid environment and collaborate with global teams
Preferred Certifications
- Oracle Certified Professional – Java Programmer (or equivalent)

Salary and Other Compensation
- Applications will be accepted until June 12, 2026
- Annual salary: $55,000 – $114,000 USD, based on experience and qualifications
- Eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program
