Job Summary

This hybrid role requires an experienced Technical Lead with eight to twelve years of hands on expertise in RPGLE COBOL 400 DB2 400 and AS400 COBOL who will guide complex application development ensure robust system performance and mentor team members while delivering secure and reliable enterprise solutions for a global organization.


Responsibilities

  • Drive end to end design and development of enterprise applications using RPGLE COBOL 400 and AS400 COBOL to deliver stable and scalable business solutions for global stakeholders.
  • Coordinate hybrid model project activities by planning onsite and remote work schedules to ensure consistent progress and predictable delivery of milestones across the team.
  • Analyze existing AS400 applications and DB2 400 database structures to identify modernization opportunities that improve maintainability performance and long term value.
  • Implement optimized database access patterns in DB2 400 by refining queries and data models to reduce response time and enhance transaction throughput for core business processes.
  • Review and refactor legacy COBOL 400 and RPGLE code to improve readability reliability and alignment with current organizational coding standards for maintainable systems.
  • Create detailed technical specifications and program level documentation for all AS400 changes to support effective knowledge sharing and smooth transition during maintenance activities.
  • Collaborate with business analysts and product partners to translate functional requirements into detailed technical solutions that balance performance risk and cost.
  • Perform rigorous unit system and regression testing for RPGLE and COBOL 400 components to detect defects early and maintain high production stability.
  • Mentor less experienced engineers by providing code review feedback and practical guidance on AS400 development techniques to uplift overall team capability.
  • Coordinate defect triage and root cause analysis for production incidents in AS400 applications to restore services quickly and prevent issue recurrence.
  • Engage with infrastructure and operations teams to plan deployments for AS400 programs and DB2 400 objects ensuring safe rollout and clear rollback strategies.
  • Monitor key application and database performance indicators to proactively identify capacity issues and propose technical improvements for sustainable growth.
  • Ensure adherence to secure coding practices and regulatory requirements in all RPGLE and COBOL 400 solutions to protect sensitive enterprise and customer information.


Qualifications

  • Possess eight to twelve years of progressive experience in enterprise application development with strong focus on RPGLE COBOL 400 DB2 400 and AS400 platforms.
  • Demonstrate advanced proficiency in designing coding testing and debugging RPGLE and COBOL 400 programs for complex transactional and batch processing workloads.
  • Exhibit solid working knowledge of DB2 400 design normalization indexing and query optimization techniques to support high volume data processing solutions.
  • Apply practical experience in analyzing refactoring and modernizing legacy AS400 applications to align with current technology and organizational standards.
  • Use effective communication and coordination skills to work with cross functional teams in a hybrid work environment ensuring clarity of goals and outcomes.
  • Display strong problem solving abilities in diagnosing performance issues and production incidents within AS400 and DB2 400 ecosystems.
  • Adapt quickly to new tools and methodologies relevant to IBM i platform development while continuously improving engineering practices and delivery quality.
