About the Role

As a Senior Java Developer, you will make an impact by designing, developing, and supporting enterprise-grade applications using Java and modern Spring technologies. You will be a valued member of the engineering team, collaborating with architects, product owners, and cross-functional stakeholders to deliver scalable, high-quality solutions. In this role, you will contribute to the development of microservices-based applications, event-driven architectures, and modern cloud-native solutions while leveraging AI-assisted development practices to enhance productivity and code quality.

In This Role, You Will:

  • Design, develop, and maintain enterprise applications using Java, Spring Boot, Spring Web, and Spring Batch.
  • Develop and enhance microservices-based applications and distributed systems.
  • Design and implement integration solutions using Kafka and other messaging technologies.
  • Collaborate with architects and cross-functional teams to deliver scalable, secure, and high-performing software solutions.
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering best practices, application quality, and performance optimization.
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve complex issues across development, testing, and production environments.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation for applications, integrations, and development processes.
  • Utilize approved AI-assisted development tools to improve development efficiency, testing, debugging, and documentation.

Based on this role's business requirements, this is a hybrid position requiring 3 days per week onsite and 2 days remote in New York City, New York. What You Need to Have to Be Considered

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 6 to 8+ years of experience developing enterprise applications using Java technologies.
  • Strong experience with Java, Spring Boot, Spring Web, and Spring Batch.
  • Hands-on experience developing and supporting RESTful APIs and microservices-based applications.
  • Experience with Kafka or comparable messaging and event-streaming platforms.
  • Strong understanding of object-oriented programming, data structures, and software design patterns.
  • Experience using Git and modern software development lifecycle practices.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, analytical, and problem-solving skills. These Will Help You Stand Out
  • Experience working with Docker, Kubernetes, and containerized deployments.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS or other cloud platforms.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and automated testing frameworks.
  • Experience working within Agile/Scrum delivery environments.
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, or similar coding assistants.
  • Demonstrated ability to leverage AI for code generation, debugging, test creation, documentation, and productivity improvements.

Salary Transparency

In accordance with New York pay transparency requirements, the anticipated annual salary range for this position is $60,000 to $93,500 depending on experience, qualifications, skills, and other legitimate business considerations.

The compensation offered will be determined based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, education, certifications, location, and market conditions. In addition to base salary, eligible employees may participate in Cognizant's benefits programs, which may include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, paid time off, and retirement benefits.
