About the role
As a Java Technical Lead, you will make an impact by leading the design, development, and modernization of enterprise-scale applications while ensuring architectural excellence, operational stability, and successful delivery of critical business outcomes. You will be a valued member of the engineering team and work collaboratively with architects, developers, product owners, client stakeholders, and cross-functional technology teams to deliver scalable cloud-native solutions.

In this role, you will:
Lead the technical delivery of enterprise applications, driving architecture decisions, code quality standards, and engineering best practices across multiple workstreams.
Execute and govern knowledge transition activities, ensuring technical readiness, comprehensive documentation, and successful onboarding across transition phases.
Design, modernize, and scale microservices-based applications using Java, Spring Boot, and AWS cloud technologies.
Partner with client engineering teams and product stakeholders to translate complex business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
Mentor engineers and technical leads, providing guidance on solution design, development standards, performance optimization, and cloud cost management.

Based on this role’s business requirements, this is a hybrid position requiring 3 days a week in a client or Cognizant office in Denver, Colorado. What you need to have to be considered
Strong experience in Java development with expertise in Spring Boot, Spring Framework, and microservices architecture.
Proven experience serving as a technical lead or solution lead for large-scale enterprise applications.
Hands-on experience designing and deploying cloud-native solutions on AWS, including services such as ECS/EKS, Lambda, API Gateway, and IAM.
Experience building and supporting event-driven architectures using Apache Kafka for real-time messaging and data processing.
Strong knowledge of MongoDB or other NoSQL databases, including schema design, performance optimization, and data modeling.
Experience with Maven, software design patterns, code review practices, and automated testing frameworks.
Ability to collaborate with clients, business stakeholders, and distributed engineering teams in an Agile delivery environment.

These will help you stand out
Hands-on experience developing services or platforms using Python.
Experience supporting AI/ML-enabled applications, data pipelines, or intelligent automation solutions.
Expertise in distributed systems, high-availability architectures, and performance tuning of enterprise platforms.
Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, infrastructure-as-code, and cloud automation tools.
AWS certifications or other cloud-related technical certifications.
Experience leading application modernization or large-scale cloud migration initiatives.

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

Salary and Other Compensation:
The annual salary for this position is between $81,337 to $141,500 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
