About the role
As a Senior Java Developer, you will make an impact by designing, developing, and supporting enterprise-grade microservices and cloud-based data integration solutions. You will be a valued member of the Digital Engineering team and work collaboratively with architects, business stakeholders, data engineers, and cross-functional delivery teams to build scalable, secure, and high-performing applications for The Hartford.
In this role, you will:
- Design, develop, and maintain Spring Boot microservices and RESTful APIs to support enterprise business applications.
- Build and support AWS Glue ETL pipelines to extract, transform, and load data across multiple enterprise systems and data platforms.
- Develop scalable, secure, and high-performance backend solutions integrated with cloud and on-premises environments.
- Collaborate with architects, business analysts, and development teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
- Participate in code reviews, testing activities, deployments, and production support to maintain application reliability and quality.
- Troubleshoot application and data processing issues while driving performance optimization and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure adherence to software development best practices, security standards, and enterprise architecture guidelines.
Work Model

Based on this role's business requirements, this is a hybrid position requiring 3 days per week in a client or Cognizant office in Charlotte, North Carolina. What you need to have to be considered
- 8+ years of experience in Java application development with a strong focus on enterprise solutions.
- Extensive hands-on experience with Java, Spring Boot, and REST API development.
- Strong experience developing and supporting AWS Glue ETL workflows and data integration solutions.
- Experience working with cloud-native architectures and AWS services.
- Strong understanding of microservices architecture, design patterns, and scalable application development.
- Experience working with relational databases and data integration technologies.
- Knowledge of Agile development methodologies and modern SDLC practices.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively in cross-functional teams.
These will help you stand out
- Experience with additional AWS services such as Lambda, S3, IAM, CloudWatch, and Step Functions.
- Experience within Insurance, Financial Services, or highly regulated industries.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and Infrastructure as Code.
- Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Knowledge of data warehousing, data lakes, and analytics platforms.
- Experience leading technical initiatives and mentoring junior developers.

Salary and Other Compensation
The annual salary range for this position is $70,000 to $117,000, depending on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors.
