About the role
As a Senior API Test Engineer, you will make an impact by ensuring the quality, reliability, and performance of enterprise applications through robust test strategies and execution. You will be a valued member of the QA team and work collaboratively with developers, product owners, and cross-functional stakeholders to drive high-quality releases.
In this role, you will:
· Plan and execute comprehensive test strategies and detailed test plans using JIRA, ensuring full coverage across functional, integration, and regression scenarios.
· Design and maintain reusable test cases and test data for API and web services testing, aligned to business and technical requirements.
· Perform manual and tool-assisted testing for REST APIs and service interfaces, validating request/response structures, status codes, and payload accuracy.
· Conduct SQL-based backend data validation to ensure data integrity, transactional consistency, and correctness across multiple systems.
· Coordinate testing activities across onsite and remote teams, ensuring clear alignment on priorities, timelines, and deliverables.
· Collaborate within Agile teams to support continuous integration and delivery pipelines.

Based on this role’s business requirements, this is a hybrid position requiring a 2 days per week in a client or Cognizant office at Charlotte NC. What you need to have to be considered
· 7–10 years of experience in software testing, including planning, execution, and management of testing activities for enterprise applications.
· Strong experience in API testing (REST services) and backend validation using SQL.
· Proficiency with test management tools such as JIRA.
· Experience working with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or equivalent.
· Solid understanding of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Software Testing Life Cycle (STLC).
· Experience working in Agile environments and applying Agile testing practices.
· Ability to work independently and manage priorities in a fast-paced environment.
· Strong communication and collaboration skills across distributed teams.
These will help you stand out
· Experience with test automation tools and frameworks for API/service testing.
· Exposure to microservices-based architectures.
· Knowledge of performance or security testing concepts.
· Experience working in hybrid or global delivery models.
Salary and Other Compensation
The annual salary for this position is between $53,477 to 92,500 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
