About the role
As a Java Technical Lead, you will make an impact by designing, developing and maintaining scalable backend services that support high-performance, customer-facing banking applications. You will be a valued member of the ADM team and work collaboratively with Agile squads, product owners, architects and cross-functional technology teams to deliver reliable, secure and production-ready backend solutions.
In this role, you will:
· Design, develop and own scalable Java-based microservices and APIs, ensuring clean, reusable and production-ready code aligned with enterprise standards.
· Lead backend architecture and design decisions, including service decomposition, API standards and cloud-native integration patterns.
· Serve as the technical anchor for the team by contributing to critical components, guiding engineering best practices and supporting high-quality delivery.
· Collaborate with product owners, architects and cross-functional teams to translate complex requirements into scalable backend solutions.
· Mentor engineers through code reviews, technical coaching and knowledge sharing across Java, microservices, cloud development and modern engineering practices.

What you need to have to be considered:
· 10+ years of professional experience in backend application development, including strong hands-on experience with Java.
· Strong experience with Spring Boot, microservices, REST APIs, SQL and Spring Security.
· Experience designing and delivering scalable, cloud-native backend solutions using Azure, AWS or OpenShift.
· Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes and CI/CD pipelines, including GitHub Actions.
· Demonstrated ability to lead technical design discussions, guide development teams and deliver high-quality solutions in an Agile environment.
· Experience applying quality engineering practices, including unit, integration and performance testing, with focus on reliability, scalability and security.

These will help you stand out:
· Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Windsurf or Claude Code to improve development speed and code quality.
· Experience monitoring and troubleshooting production systems using tools such as Splunk or Dynatrace.
· Experience reducing technical debt, improving system performance and introducing automation or modern engineering practices.
· Working knowledge of Angular or other frontend technologies.
· Experience supporting banking, financial services or other large-scale customer-facing applications.

Salary and compensation:
The annual salary for this position will be between 71,000 CAD to 115,000 CAD per year depending on the experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate. This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program and stock awards, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
