We are looking for a Senior Automation Engineer with strong experience in API and UI automation testing. The role focuses on designing, developing, and maintaining automated test cases for our banking clients. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in test automation, API testing, SQL, and automation frameworks.
In this role, you will
- Design, develop, and maintain automation frameworks using Playwright, Selenium, Cucumber, Java, and TypeScript.
- Maintain and enhance the Selenium Cucumber BDD framework by creating reusable methods, utilities, and supporting components.
- Develop and run automated test scripts for UI and API validation
- Perform backend and database validation using SQL.
- Diagnose, debug, and troubleshoot complex software defects, documenting detailed bug reports and tracking them to resolution.
- Integrate automated test suites into CI/CD pipelines to facilitate continuous testing and rapid deployment cycles.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams in an Agile/Scrum environment to deliver high-quality software solutions.
- Work with stakeholders across different teams to understand requirements, gather feedback, and ensure alignment on automation goals.
Required skills
- Overall 6-10 years of experience in software test automation engineering for banking projects.
- 6+ years of experience developing maintaining & executing automated regression tests for web and backend applications.
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience with automation and testing tools such as Selenium, Playwright, Postman, Java, and/or Python.
- 3+ years of experience in testing RESTful APIs and working with API testing tools (e.g., Postman, RestAssured).
- Experience testing backend services and distributed systems.
- CI/CD pipeline building experience through GITLAB, Jenkins, or Maven.
- Experience with bug tracking and test management tools like JIRA, TestRail, or Zephyr.
Preferred skills
- Automation framework development from scratch.
- Banking domain experience is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of AI-driven testing tools.

Total compensation:
We regularly assess market data to ensure we offer a competitive compensation package for our associates. The base salary for this position ranges between CAD 70,000 – 90,000 per year. Where the successful candidate may fall within the range depends on relevant education, work and/or management experience and other business-related and job-necessary qualifications. This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual performance-based bonus, as well as benefits that support your physical, mental and financial wellbeing.
Working arrangements
We believe hybrid work is the way forward as we strive to provide flexibility wherever possible. Based on this role’s business requirements, this is a hybrid position requiring 4 days a week in a client or Cognizant office in Toronto, ON.
