About the role
As an AWS Data Engineer, you will make an impact by designing, building, and optimizing scalable cloud-based data solutions that enable advanced analytics, reporting, and data-driven decision-making. You will be a valued member of the Data Engineering team and work collaboratively with architects, data scientists, business stakeholders, analytics teams, and DevOps professionals to deliver reliable and high-performing data products.
In this role, you will:
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines using Databricks, PySpark, Python, and SQL.
- Build and support modern Lakehouse architecture leveraging Delta Lake and Medallion (Bronze, Silver, Gold) design patterns.
- Develop and optimize batch and streaming data ingestion solutions across multiple enterprise data sources.
- Implement data transformation, validation, governance, security, and quality controls to ensure trusted data assets.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable analytics solutions while improving performance, automation, and cost efficiency across the data platform.

What you need to have to be considered
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in Data Engineering with a focus on large-scale data processing solutions.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience building and supporting Databricks solutions on AWS.
- Strong proficiency in Python, PySpark, Spark SQL, and SQL.
- Experience designing and implementing ETL/ELT pipelines in cloud-based environments.
- Strong understanding of Delta Lake, Data Lakehouse concepts, and Medallion architecture.
- Experience with AWS services such as S3, Glue, Lambda, IAM, Redshift, SNS, SQS, and CloudWatch.
- Knowledge of data modeling, dimensional modeling, and modern data warehousing practices.
- Experience using Git-based version control and CI/CD pipelines for deployment automation.
These will help you stand out
- Experience working with Unity Catalog and enterprise data governance frameworks.
- Hands-on experience optimizing Spark workloads, Databricks clusters, and cloud infrastructure costs.
- Knowledge of Change Data Capture (CDC) patterns and real-time data processing architectures.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform.
- Familiarity with Jenkins, Azure DevOps, or similar automation and release management platforms.

Salary and Other Compensation:
The annual salary for this position is between $98.000 - $110.000 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
