Senior Java FSE with Angular (Hybrid)

In this role, you will

  • Design, develop, and maintain full stack web applications using Java, Spring Boot, and Angular
  • Build RESTful APIs and integrate them with front-end components
  • Develop responsive, reusable, and maintainable UI components using Angular (latest versions preferred-17+), TypeScript, HTML5, and CSS3
  • Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code following best practices and coding standards
  • Participate in the full software development lifecycle: requirements analysis, design, development, testing, deployment, and support
  • Collaborate with product managers, UX/UI designers, QA, and DevOps teams in an Agile/Scrum environment
  • Optimize application performance, scalability, and security
  • Write and maintain unit and integration tests (JUnit, Jasmine/Karma)
  • Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve production issues as needed
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and recommend improvements

Based on this role’s business requirements, this is a hybrid position requiring 3 days a week in a client or Cognizant office in Halifax - NS CAN. What you need to have to be considered


Backend:

  • Strong hands-on experience with Java (8/11/17+)
  • Experience with Spring Framework / Spring Boot / Spring MVC / Spring Security
  • RESTful API design and development
  • Experience with Hibernate/JPA and relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, or similar)
  • Familiarity with microservices architecture

Frontend:

  • Strong hands-on experience with Angular (Angular 17+)
  • Proficiency in TypeScript, JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, CSS3
  • Experience with RxJS, NgRx, or other state management libraries (preferred)
  • Experience consuming REST APIs from Angular applications
  • Understanding of responsive design and cross-browser compatibility

General:

  • Experience with Git and version control workflows
  • Familiarity with build tools (Maven/Gradle) and package managers (npm/yarn)
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab CI, or similar)
  • Knowledge of containerization (Docker) and cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP) is a plus
  • Solid understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills


These will help you stand out

  • Experience with Kubernetes or container orchestration
  • Exposure to message queues (Kafka, RabbitMQ)
  • Familiarity with unit testing frameworks (JUnit, Mockito, Jasmine, Karma, Jest)
  • Experience with API gateways and service mesh

Total compensation

We regularly assess market data to ensure we offer a competitive compensation package for our associates. The base salary for this position ranges between $60,300 – $117,500 (CAD) per year. Where the successful candidate may fall within the range depends on relevant education, work and/or management experience and other business-related and job-necessary qualifications. This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual performance-based bonus, as well as benefits that support your physical, mental and financial wellbeing.
