Lead Developer – Power BI
Job Summary
The Lead Developer is responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing enterprise analytics solutions using Microsoft Power BI. This role partners with business, data engineering, and operational teams to deliver scalable reporting and dashboard solutions that enable data-driven decision making. The position plays a key role in supporting adjudication and setup domain initiatives through advanced analytics, data modeling, visualization best practices, and governance frameworks that improve operational efficiency, customer outcomes, and business performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the end-to-end design, development, and deployment of complex Microsoft Power BI dashboards and reporting solutions.
- Translate business requirements into scalable data models, semantic layers, and interactive reports that provide actionable insights.
- Define and promote best practices for data visualization, dashboard usability, storytelling, and user experience.
- Optimize Power BI datasets, DAX measures, queries, and refresh processes to ensure high performance and reliability.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders, subject matter experts, and data engineering teams to validate data sources and business logic.
- Design and maintain enterprise-grade semantic models that support adjudication and setup operations.
- Establish and enforce governance standards for Power BI workspaces, datasets, reports, security, and access management.
- Develop reusable reporting components, templates, and frameworks to accelerate analytics solution delivery.
- Embed operational rules and domain-specific business processes into analytics solutions to improve consistency and decision quality.
- Implement quality assurance practices, peer reviews, testing protocols, and validation procedures for reporting deliverables.
- Enable self-service analytics by creating intuitive and user-friendly reporting experiences within governed environments.
- Monitor report usage, performance metrics, and stakeholder feedback to drive continuous improvement.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, data lineage, design specifications, and user guides.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities where analytics can improve operational effectiveness and customer outcomes.
- Support enterprise analytics initiatives aligned with organizational goals, ethical data practices, and business value realization.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Analytics, Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong experience in Microsoft Power BI development, administration, and data visualization.
- Proficiency in DAX, Power Query, data modeling, and report optimization techniques.
- Experience working with relational databases, SQL, ETL/ELT processes, and large datasets.
- Strong understanding of data governance, security, and analytics best practices.
- Experience collaborating with business stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting adjudication, setup, insurance, healthcare, or similar operational domains.
- Knowledge of enterprise data warehouse and cloud analytics platforms.
- Experience implementing self-service BI and analytics governance frameworks.
- Familiarity with Agile delivery methodologies and DevOps practices.

The annual salary for this position is between $125,000 - $130,000 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
