AWS Databricks Data Engineer (Insurance Domain)

Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced AWS Databricks Data Engineer to join our Insurance client engagement. The ideal candidate should have strong hands-on experience in Python and PySpark along with expertise in Databricks and AWS cloud services. The role involves designing, developing, and optimizing scalable data pipelines to support analytics, reporting, and business insights for insurance operations.
Required Skills
- 7+ years of experience in Data Engineering and Big Data technologies.
- Strong hands-on experience with Python and PySpark (Mandatory).
- 3+ years of experience with Databricks including notebooks, workflows, Delta Lake, and Spark SQL.
- Experience with AWS services:
- S3
- Glue
- EMR
- Lambda
- Athena
- Redshift
- IAM
- CloudWatch
- Experience building ETL/ELT pipelines using Databricks and AWS.
- Strong SQL and data modeling skills.
- Experience working with large-scale structured and unstructured datasets.
- Knowledge of CI/CD, Git, and Agile methodologies.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop scalable data pipelines using Databricks, PySpark, and AWS.
- Build and maintain ETL processes for ingesting, transforming, and loading insurance data.
- Optimize Spark jobs and Databricks workloads for performance and cost efficiency.
- Develop Delta Lake solutions and data quality frameworks.
- Work closely with business stakeholders, analysts, and architects to understand data requirements.
- Implement monitoring, logging, and automated deployment strategies.
- Support data migration and modernization initiatives on AWS.
- Ensure data governance, security, and compliance standards are followed.
Preferred Skills
- Insurance domain experience (Policy, Claims, Underwriting, Billing, Actuarial, or Customer Data).
- Experience with Snowflake or other cloud data warehouses.
- Knowledge of Terraform or Infrastructure as Code.
- Experience with streaming technologies such as Kafka/Kinesis.
- Databricks and AWS certifications are a plus.
Nice to Have
- Scala experience.
- Data Lakehouse architecture experience.
- Exposure to AI/ML data engineering workflows.

The annual salary for this position is between $125,000 - $130,000 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
