PostgreSQL Database Administrator

The engagement aims to reshape the database offering for the entire group by introducing a 'Database as a Service' model and expanding the current team with additional capabilities. It involves managing day-to-day database operations, including vulnerability management, service level management, routine backups, and system monitoring. Cognizant will provide engineering resources as needed, design and develop an automated database provisioning platform, and ensure 24/7 support for database operations.
The engagement will operate under a blended team model, combining DevOps engineers and Database Platform Engineers. The team will adopt the current agile Scrum framework, with responsibilities for both development and operational support. The team will work in sync with existing infrastructure and teams, ensuring smooth integration and knowledge sharing.
About the role
Serve as an Infra Technology Specialist focused on stable and secure Windows and PostgreSql administration for hybrid environments supporting business critical applications with strong operational discipline and reliable service delivery. Collaborate with cross functional teams to optimize infrastructure performance strengthen resilience and enable efficient day to day operations.
In this role, you will:
· Manage Windows server environments to ensure stable and secure operation for business critical applications while meeting agreed availability and performance targets.
· Administer PostgreSql databases to maintain reliable data storage efficient query execution and robust backup and recovery practices for enterprise workloads.
· Monitor system health across Windows and PostgreSql platforms using standard tools to identify performance bottlenecks capacity risks and emerging issues before they affect users.
· Implement configuration changes on Windows servers and PostgreSql instances following defined change management processes to reduce risk and prevent unplanned service impact.
· Troubleshoot infrastructure incidents by performing systematic analysis across operating system database and network layers to restore service within agreed timelines.
· Optimize PostgreSql configurations by tuning parameters indexes and queries to improve throughput reduce latency and support growing transaction volumes.
· Strengthen platform security by applying hardening guidelines managing access controls and coordinating regular patching across Windows and PostgreSql components.
· Document standard operating procedures runbooks and infrastructure diagrams to support consistent operations and knowledge sharing across hybrid teams.
· Support disaster recovery readiness by maintaining backup jobs testing restore procedures and helping validate recovery time and recovery point objectives for key systems.
· Engage in hybrid work model practices by using remote management tools and collaboration platforms to deliver timely support during day shifts across locations.
· Contribute to continuous improvement by analyzing incident trends proposing automation opportunities and helping refine monitoring alerts for Windows and PostgreSql.
Work model
The role is primarily office-based (five days), but partial work-from-home is possible (two to three days in office, rest remote)
Shift Coverage: The candidate must be flexible for 24x7 coverage, joining an existing team to ensure round-the-clock support.
What you need to have to be considered
· Possess hands on experience in Windows server administration including user management services configuration patching coordination and performance troubleshooting for enterprise environments.
· Bring strong practical expertise in PostgreSql administration covering installation configuration backup and recovery performance tuning and routine maintenance tasks.
· Apply working knowledge of infrastructure operations processes such as incident problem and change management to support predictable and auditable service delivery.
· Demonstrate exposure to operations domain practices where infrastructure reliability adherence to runbooks and clear communication with stakeholders are critical to success.
· Utilize scripting or automation tools where possible to simplify routine Windows and PostgreSql operational tasks and reduce manual errors.
