Job Summary
Serve as a Mainframe Tester Analyst in a hybrid work model applying strong hands on experience in Jira Cobol and mainframe testing across cards and payments applications. Contribute to the quality and reliability of critical transaction processing systems by designing executing and documenting thorough test cycles collaborating closely with cross functional teams and ensuring defects are identified and resolved quickly to protect business and customer outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Execute comprehensive test planning and design activities for mainframe applications built with Cobol to ensure reliable transaction processing and accurate business outcomes.
- Develop detailed test cases and reusable test data sets in alignment with functional and non functional requirements for cards and payments systems to achieve high coverage and repeatable testing cycles.
- Perform systematic mainframe test execution including batch and online transaction flows to validate correctness of account updates fee calculations settlement processes and end of day processing.
- Use Jira to create maintain and track test cases test cycles and defect records ensuring that test artifacts remain accurate current and easily traceable throughout the project lifecycle.
- Analyze defects discovered during testing to identify root causes impact areas and risk levels and collaborate with developers and business analysts to drive timely and effective resolution.
- Document test results with clear evidence steps and outcomes in Jira and project repositories so that stakeholders can review quality status and make informed release decisions.
- Collaborate with cards and payments domain experts and product owners to clarify requirements edge cases and regulatory constraints resulting in more realistic test scenarios and fewer production issues.
- Coordinate with cross functional teams including development operations and business stakeholders during day shift hybrid working hours to align testing priorities and support smooth release cycles.
- Monitor and report testing progress through structured status updates and metrics so that project teams understand coverage defect trends and readiness for deployment.
- Support continuous improvement of test processes by suggesting refinements to templates workflows and mainframe test environments based on lessons learned from prior releases.
- Contribute to risk based testing approaches by identifying critical transaction paths such as authorization clearing settlement and chargebacks and focusing effort where defects would have highest customer impact.
- Ensure compliance with company policies regulatory expectations and data protection standards during test design and execution so that customer information and financial integrity remain safeguarded.
- Participate in knowledge sharing activities with peers by documenting mainframe testing techniques Jira usage tips and domain insights to build a stronger testing community within the organization.
Qualifications
- Possess practical experience in using Jira for test case management defect tracking and status reporting enabling transparent collaboration with project stakeholders.
- Apply working knowledge of Cobol programming behavior to design meaningful test scenarios for mainframe modules and to interpret logs and outputs when investigating defects.
- Demonstrate solid hands on mainframe testing skills including familiarity with typical utilities job control and batch scheduling to execute thorough end to end tests.
- Bring domain understanding of cards and payments such as transaction lifecycles card schemes and settlement processes which is considered beneficial for creating realistic test coverage.
- Show capability to communicate findings clearly in written and verbal form with diverse teams and to document test evidence so that quality outcomes are well understood.
- Exhibit adaptability to hybrid work arrangements and day shift schedules while managing multiple test cycles within the one to four year experience band.
- Display analytical thinking attention to detail and commitment to quality which supports the company mission to deliver secure reliable and efficient payment services to society.
