Big Data Engineer (Snowflake & Big Data)
About the Role
As a Big Data Engineer, you will make an impact by designing, developing, and optimizing scalable data platforms, ETL processes, and data pipelines that enable business-critical analytics and reporting. You will be a valued member of the Data Engineering team and work collaboratively with architects, developers, DevOps teams, product owners, and business stakeholders to deliver secure, high-quality data solutions.
In This Role, You Will:
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines and ingestion frameworks using Big Data technologies and Snowflake.
- Build and optimize ETL processes to support data integration, transformation, and delivery across multiple platforms.
- Develop efficient SQL queries, stored procedures, and data models to ensure high-performance data processing.
- Ensure data quality, security, reliability, and governance standards across the data ecosystem.
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and continuously improve data workflows, platform performance, and operational processes.

Based on this role's business requirements, this is a hybrid position requiring 4 days per week onsite in Toronto, Ontario. What You Need to Have to Be Considered
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience designing and implementing data solutions using Big Data technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, and Hive.
- Hands-on experience with the Snowflake Data Platform.
- Strong SQL development skills and solid understanding of data modeling concepts.
- Experience developing applications and APIs using Scala or Java.
- Experience with ETL and orchestration tools such as Informatica, Talend, or Apache Airflow.
- Experience working with cloud platforms, preferably AWS.
- Understanding of DevSecOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, source control management, and Infrastructure as Code.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of Generative AI tools to improve coding efficiency and developer productivity.
These Will Help You Stand Out
- Experience with Apache Airflow or other workflow orchestration tools.
- Experience with GitHub Actions, automated testing frameworks, Git, and modern CI/CD practices.
- Knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift (OCP4), or containerized application deployment.
- Experience with Python, Shell Scripting, or other automation languages.
- Experience integrating Snowflake with reporting, analytics, and business intelligence platforms.

Salary and Other Compensation:
Applications will be accepted until September 17, 2026.
The annual salary for this position is between CAD 53,000 – CAD 84,000 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
