Senior Java Developer
About the role
As a Senior Java Developer, you will make an impact by designing, developing, and optimizing enterprise-grade applications that support critical payment processing and financial services platforms. You will be a valued member of the engineering team and work collaboratively with product managers, business analysts, architects, and cross-functional stakeholders to deliver scalable and secure technology solutions.
In this role, you will:
- Design and develop scalable, high-performance Java applications and APIs that support business-critical payment and transaction processing systems.
- Partner with product, business, and technology teams to translate business requirements into reliable technical solutions.
- Drive code quality through technical design reviews, performance optimization, testing best practices, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues while ensuring application stability, security, and operational excellence.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the adoption of engineering standards, development best practices, and modern delivery methodologies.

Based on this role’s business requirements, this is a hybrid position requiring 3 days a week in a client or Cognizant office in Brooklyn, OH. What you need to have to be considered
- 6 to 10 years of experience designing, developing, and supporting enterprise applications using Java.
- Strong expertise in Core Java, object-oriented programming, multithreading, exception handling, and performance tuning.
- Hands-on experience with modern Java frameworks, dependency injection, web services, and persistence technologies.
- Experience developing RESTful APIs and backend services within scalable, distributed environments.
- Solid understanding of unit testing, integration testing, CI/CD practices, and software development lifecycle methodologies.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills with a focus on delivering high-quality solutions.
These will help you stand out
- Experience supporting payment processing, banking, or financial services applications.
- Knowledge of payment transaction lifecycles, settlement processes, and industry compliance requirements.
- Experience optimizing database performance and application scalability in high-volume environments.
- Familiarity with cloud-native development, automation, and DevOps practices.
- Proven ability to mentor team members and collaborate effectively across global teams.
Salary and Other Compensation:

The annual salary for this position is between $ 60,000 to $93,500 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
