About the role
As a Senior Business Systems Analyst – Global Payments (ISO 20022), you will make an impact by driving the analysis, specification, and documentation enabling engineering teams to build and deploy solutions supporting SWIFT MT-to-MX migration, ISO 20022 message processing, and integration with downstream screening, monitoring, reconciliation, and reporting platforms. You will be a valued member of the Capital Markets team and work collaboratively with engineering teams, payment platforms, and compliance systems.
In this role, you will:
Elicit and document technical and functional requirements for ISO 20022 initiatives, translating CBPR+ guidelines and message definition reports into detailed specifications
Perform element-level data mapping between SWIFT MT fields (50, 52, 56, 57, 59, 70, 72) and ISO 20022 MX equivalents across pacs, camt, and pain message families, including transformation rules, conditional logic, and exception handling
Conduct technical gap analysis on payment platforms, middleware, and downstream systems to identify required code changes, schema modifications, and new components
Define system behavior for MT/MX coexistence scenarios including data truncation, character set conversion, structured-to-unstructured mapping, and fallback logic
Support interface design, message flow modeling, testing, defect triage, standards impact assessment, and collaboration with screening and monitoring platforms

What you must have to be considered
8–12+ years of experience as a Business Systems Analyst, Technical Analyst, or Systems Analyst within payments technology or financial messaging
Expert knowledge of SWIFT MT messages (MT103, MT202, MT202COV, MT199, MT900/910, MT950) and ISO 20022 schemas (pacs.008, pacs.009, pacs.002, pacs.004, camt.053, camt.054, pain.001) including CBPR+ usage guidelines
Strong experience performing detailed MT-to-MX data mapping, including transformation rules and exception handling
Proficiency with XML/XSD, XPath, and XSLT for ISO 20022 message interpretation and transformation specification
Experience defining integration logic for payment middleware and platforms (Volante, Bottomline, Axway, IBM MQ, Kafka, SWIFT Alliance Access/Gateway)
Strong SQL skills for data analysis, schema validation, and requirements verification
Experience designing API, message queue, and file-based integration interfaces within payments ecosystems
Familiarity with SWIFT network infrastructure (FIN, FINplus, InterAct, FileAct) and correspondent banking models
These will help you succeed
Experience working with sanctions screening and transaction monitoring platforms from a technical integration perspective
Knowledge of regulatory frameworks including Travel Rule (31 CFR 1010.410), FATF Recommendation 16, and OFAC screening requirements
Experience modeling end-to-end payment flows using sequence diagrams, data flow diagrams, and state transition diagrams
Experience supporting testing, defect triage, and SWIFT SR or ISO 20022 migration activities
Ability to collaborate effectively across engineering, compliance, and payment platform teams

We regularly assess market data to ensure we offer a competitive compensation package for our associates. The base salary for this position ranges between $120,000 - $140,000 per year. Where the successful candidate may fall within the range depends on relevant education, work and/or management experience and other business-related and job-necessary qualifications. This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual performance-based bonus, as well as benefits that support your physical, mental and financial wellbeing.
