Sr. DevOps Engineer
About the role
As a Senior DevOps Engineer, you will make an impact by designing and automating secure, reusable enterprise CI/CD pipelines and modular Azure infrastructure that accelerate reliable, governed software delivery across the full environment lifecycle. You will be a valued member of the DevOps Engineering team within Cloud & Infrastructure Services and work collaboratively with DevOps leads, engineers, architects, QA, product, security, infrastructure, and networking teams.
In this role, you will
Design, develop, maintain, and optimize reusable enterprise CI/CD pipelines, workflow templates, and composite actions using GitHub Actions.
Automate secure deployments and promotion across development, integration, QA, UAT, staging, and production environments, including approvals, artifacts, secrets, and environment protections.
Implement GitHub governance, branch protections, Rulesets, pull-request validation, required checks, reviewer controls, quality gates, and security scanning.
Design and automate secure Azure environments using modular, parameterized Bicep templates, reusable modules, validation, linting, and what-if analysis.
Develop maintainable PowerShell and Python automation for provisioning, validation, repository operations, security checks, reporting, diagnostics, and operational tooling.
Work model

What you need to have to be considered
10+ years of professional DevOps/CI/CD engineering experience and 10+ years of hands-on Microsoft Azure architecture, implementation, security, automation, and operational experience.
Advanced practical experience designing GitHub Actions pipelines, reusable workflows, composite actions, artifact strategies, environment promotion, and secure Azure integration.
Strong Git/GitHub expertise, including branch protection, GitHub Rulesets, pull-request validation, required checks, quality gates, automated testing, and repository governance.
Strong Infrastructure as Code expertise with Azure Bicep, including modular templates, parameters, reusable blueprints, linting, validation, and what-if analysis.
Strong PowerShell and Python scripting skills with the ability to create production-quality, reusable, secure, maintainable, and documented automation.
These will help you stand out
Deep understanding of Azure security and DevSecOps practices, including least privilege, RBAC, managed identities, Key Vault, private connectivity, and automated security controls.
Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex CI/CD, cloud infrastructure, permissions, configuration, deployment, and networking failures independently.
Hands-on experience applying Azure networking and security best practices, including private endpoints, VNets, subnets, NSGs, DNS, peering, routing, logging, monitoring, and alerting.
Excellent written and verbal communication, collaboration, technical ownership, and an automation-first engineering mindset.
Responsible use of AI-assisted engineering tools such as GitHub Copilot and Claude AI.

Salary and Other Compensation
Applications will be accepted until October 19th, 2026.
The annual salary for this position is between $75,000.00 - $135,000.00 depending on the experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
This position is also eligible for Cognizant's discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant's applicable plans.
