Senior Application Developer – Synon / AS400

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Application Developer with strong expertise in Synon-based AS/400 applications to support application development, enhancement, and maintenance initiatives. The role involves designing, developing, testing, and supporting high-quality solutions while collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver stable, scalable, and maintainable systems aligned with business requirements and delivery KPIs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, debug, and maintain Synon-based AS/400 applications
  • Collaborate with onsite and offshore teams within a unified delivery model
  • Analyze business requirements and contribute to solution design and effort estimation
  • Customize generated Synon code and perform impact analysis on existing models
  • Prepare and maintain low-level design documentation, including Japanese documentation when required
  • Work closely with Business Analysts, Technical Leads, and stakeholders to clarify requirements
  • Ensure adherence to coding standards, quality benchmarks, and delivery KPIs
  • Participate in code reviews, defect fixing, and validation cycles
  • Support SIT and UAT phases, including issue analysis and resolution
  • Provide production implementation and post-release support as required
  • Track deliverables, communicate status, and proactively identify risks or dependencies
  • Contribute to retrospectives, continuous improvement initiatives, and project documentation
  • Maintain technical documentation, reusable assets, and knowledgebase materials
  • Continuously enhance technical and domain knowledge through training and hands-on learning

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience developing and supporting Synon-based AS/400 applications
  • Strong experience analyzing existing Synon models and customizing generated code
  • Proven ability to perform impact analysis and support application enhancements
  • Good understanding of Insurance domain concepts
  • Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience working effectively in distributed (onsite/offshore) teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in large-scale enterprise application delivery environments
  • Exposure to global delivery models and stakeholder collaboration

Compensation

  • Salary Range: CAD 60,300 – CAD 110,000 per year
  • Compensation will be determined based on experience, skills, location, and overall role fit.

This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
