About the role
As a Senior Java Developer, you will make an impact by designing, developing, and maintaining scalable enterprise applications using modern Java technologies and microservices architectures. You will be a valued member of the engineering team and work collaboratively with architects, product owners, QA engineers, DevOps teams, and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality technology solutions.
In this role, you will:
- Design, develop, and maintain enterprise applications using Java 8/11/17+ and Spring Boot.
- Build and support scalable microservices-based architectures and distributed systems.
- Develop and integrate RESTful APIs across multiple applications and services.
- Create automation tools, scripts, and supporting services using Python.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver secure, reliable, and high-performing solutions.
- Participate in code reviews, troubleshooting, performance optimization, and architectural discussions.
- Ensure applications meet security, scalability, maintainability, and reliability standards.

What you need to have to be considered
- 6+ years of experience developing enterprise applications using Java.
- Strong proficiency with Spring Boot and the Spring ecosystem, including Spring MVC, Spring Data JPA, Spring Security, and Spring Cloud.
- Hands-on experience designing and building microservices architectures and distributed systems.
- Experience developing and consuming RESTful APIs.
- Proficiency in Python for scripting, automation, or service development.
- Strong understanding of software engineering principles, design patterns, and object-oriented programming.
- Experience with Git and modern version control practices.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Strong troubleshooting, debugging, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently in a remote environment.
These will help you stand out
- Experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
- Familiarity with messaging and event-driven technologies such as Kafka or RabbitMQ.
- Experience working in Agile and Scrum development environments.
- Exposure to cloud-native architecture and container orchestration solutions.
- Experience supporting large-scale enterprise applications.

Salary and Other Compensation

We regularly assess market data to ensure we offer a competitive compensation package for our associates. The base salary for this position ranges between CAD $60,000 and CAD $95,000 per year. Where the successful candidate may fall within the range depends on relevant education, work and/or management experience, skillset, and other business-related and job-necessary qualifications.
This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual performance-based bonus, as well as benefits that support physical, mental, and financial well-being.
