We are seeking a Senior Automation Test Engineer with strong Java Programming skills to design, develop, and maintain automated testing frameworks. The role focuses on designing, developing, and maintaining automated test cases for our banking clients. The ideal candidate should be passionate about quality, automation best practices, and continuous improvement in the testing lifecycle.
In this role, you will
- Build and maintain API automation frameworks from scratch.
- Design, develop and maintain automated test scripts using Java,TestNG and Selenium/Playwright.
- Design, develop, and execute API automation scripts using Rest Assured.
- Ensure comprehensive test coverage for both frontend (UI) and backend (API, database) components.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams in an Agile/Scrum environment to deliver high-quality software solutions.
- Ensure timely delivery of automation test coverage as part of Agile sprints.
- Apply your understanding of Generative AI platforms to test AI-driven features or utilize AI tools to optimize the testing lifecycle.
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders to provide updates on testing progress and quality metrics.
Required skills
- Overall 6-10 years of experience as an SDET or in a similar automation testing role.
- Must have strong proficiency in Java programming.
- Minimum 4 years of hands-on automation experience using Java, Selenium, Junit, TestNG, Maven, BDD Cucumber framework.
- Must have 2+ years of exp. in API Automation Test using Rest Assured.
- Exposure to test GraphQL will be an added advantage.
- Solid understanding of REST APIs, HTTP methods, authentication, and JSON/XML.
- Good SQL and Database testing experience.
- Exposure to GenAI platforms like COPILOT is must.
- Knowledge of CI/CD integration tools and practices.
Preferred skills
- Experience in Banking Domain.

Total compensation:
We regularly assess market data to ensure we offer a competitive compensation package for our associates. The base salary for this position ranges between CAD 65,000 – 90,000 per year. Where the successful candidate may fall within the range depends on relevant education, work and/or management experience and other business-related and job-necessary qualifications. This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual performance-based bonus, as well as benefits that support your physical, mental and financial wellbeing.
Working arrangements
We believe hybrid work is the way forward as we strive to provide flexibility wherever possible. Based on this role’s business requirements, this is a hybrid position requiring 4 days a week in a client or Cognizant office in Toronto, ON.
