About the role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Platform Engineer – GitHub DevOps & Cloud Automation to design and build scalable, self-service platform capabilities that accelerate software delivery, improve developer productivity, and reduce operational overhead. This role focuses on modern platform engineering practices, GitHub-based DevOps automation, Kubernetes platforms, Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD modernization, and cloud-native engineering.
You will architect and implement resilient infrastructure solutions, developer self-service capabilities, GitOps workflows, and AI-driven operational tooling that enable large-scale enterprise application delivery across hybrid and cloud environments.
In this role, you will:
· Design and build self-service platform capabilities that enable engineering teams to provision and manage infrastructure with minimal operational support.
· Architect and implement GitHub Enterprise-based DevOps platforms, repository standards, branching strategies, and governance models.
· Develop and maintain enterprise CI/CD solutions using GitHub Actions, GitOps, and Infrastructure as Code practices.
· Create reusable platform components, templates, and automation workflows that standardize infrastructure provisioning and application deployments.
· Build scalable Kubernetes-based platforms across cloud environments, including Amazon EKS and related ecosystem technologies.
· Automate infrastructure lifecycle management using Terraform and cloud-native services.
· Drive platform reliability through observability solutions leveraging tools such as Datadog, Prometheus, and Grafana.
· Collaborate with development, operations, and security teams to implement DevSecOps practices, policy automation, and compliance controls.
· Design disaster recovery, backup, and resilience strategies for mission-critical platforms.
· Implement GitOps deployment models using tools such as ArgoCD to improve deployment consistency and operational efficiency.
· Evaluate and implement AI-powered platform engineering solutions using technologies such as RAG, AWS Bedrock, OpenSearch, and related frameworks to improve developer experience and operational productivity.
· Analyze deployment metrics, platform health indicators, and infrastructure utilization data to drive continuous improvement and cost optimization.
· Support incident management, root-cause analysis, and platform modernization initiatives across enterprise environments.
· Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and architectural guidance to engineering teams.

What you need to have to be considered
· 10+ years of experience in Platform Engineering, DevOps Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering, or Cloud Architecture.
· Strong expertise with GitHub Enterprise, GitHub Actions, repository governance, and CI/CD automation.
· Extensive experience with Kubernetes, including Amazon EKS and Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE).
· Strong hands-on experience with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code methodologies.
· Experience designing and implementing enterprise-scale cloud platforms within AWS environments.
· Proficiency in scripting and automation using Python.
· Experience implementing GitOps methodologies using tools such as ArgoCD.
· Strong understanding of cloud networking, security, scalability, availability, and resilience patterns.
· Experience with observability platforms including Datadog, Prometheus, and Grafana.
· Knowledge of DevSecOps practices including RBAC, mTLS, IRSA, policy enforcement, and security automation.
· Experience designing disaster recovery and backup solutions, including Kubernetes workload protection.
· Strong communication, stakeholder management, and technical leadership skills.
This will help you stand out
· Experience building self-service platform engineering solutions supporting large-scale developer communities.
· Expertise designing enterprise CI/CD ecosystems supporting thousands of repositories and multiple engineering teams.
· Experience reducing cloud infrastructure costs through automation, resource optimization, and platform modernization initiatives.
· Experience implementing AI-powered DevOps and platform engineering solutions using AWS Bedrock, RAG, OpenSearch k-NN, MCP, or GenAI technologies.
· Experience building enterprise DevOps platforms with CloudBees CI, GitHub Actions, ArgoCD, and Kubernetes.
· Proven success driving GitOps adoption, developer productivity improvements, and operational excellence initiatives.
· Cloud, Kubernetes, Terraform, DevOps, or Platform Engineering certifications.
· Experience supporting hybrid-cloud and multi-cloud enterprise environments.
Salary and Other Compensation:
The annual salary for this position is between $79,240 to $133,500 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
