About the role
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Backend Tech Lead (Java, Node.js, AWS) to design, develop, and lead the delivery of scalable, cloud-native applications. This role focuses on building modern microservices-based systems, leveraging Java, Python, and Node.js, while driving technical excellence across distributed teams. You will play a key role in architecting solutions, mentoring team members, and ensuring high-quality delivery in an Agile environment.
In this role, you will:
· Design and develop scalable backend systems using Java (Spring Boot), Python, and Node.js
· Build and maintain microservices-based architectures using RESTful APIs and event-driven systems
· Lead POD teams across multiple locations and time zones, including offshore teams
· Develop and support SPA applications using Angular or React
· Create and consume APIs, and implement workflow automation solutions
· Collaborate with Product, QA, DevOps, and Architecture teams to deliver high-quality solutions
· Ensure system performance, scalability, and high availability
· Troubleshoot production issues and perform root cause analysis (RCA)
· Mentor and guide team members to improve technical capabilities and delivery efficiency
· Leverage AI tools (e.g., Co-pilot, Windsurf) to accelerate development and automation

What you need to have to be considered
· Strong hands-on experience in Java backend development using Spring Boot, Microservices, and RESTful services
· Proficiency in Python and Node.js (Express.js, Next.js) for backend development
· Experience building cloud-native applications on AWS (EC2, S3, Lambda, API Gateway, IAM, CloudWatch)
· Strong experience with SQL/NoSQL databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, Aurora, MongoDB)
· Proven experience in technical leadership, leading teams across geographies
· Experience designing and implementing microservices and API-driven architectures
· Strong understanding of system design, scalability, and high availability
· Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments
· Strong problem-solving and debugging skills
· Demonstrated ability to mentor team members and resolve technical challenges
· Experience building and consuming REST APIs and developing enterprise-grade applications
This will help you stand out
· Experience deploying applications in AWS production environments
· Exposure to containerization (Docker) and CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, AWS CodePipeline)
· Experience with event-driven systems (Kafka, SNS, SQS)
· Familiarity with security standards such as OAuth2, JWT, and IAM best practices
· Experience with AI-driven development tools and automation (e.g., Windsurf, MCPs)
· Hands-on experience developing modern frontend applications using Angular or React
· Strong collaboration skills with cross-functional teams and stakeholders
Salary and Other Compensation:
The annual salary for this position is between $81,337 to $141,500 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
