About the role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Design System Engineer with 5+ years of experience in front-end development and design system engineering. In this role, you will help evolve and maintain the Lexicon Design System by building scalable, reusable, and accessible components that enable consistent user experiences across enterprise applications.
In this role, you will
- Develop, maintain, and enhance reusable web and mobile components within the Lexicon Design System, ensuring consistency, scalability, and quality across applications.
- Partner with UX designers, accessibility specialists, and engineering teams to translate designs into accessible, production-ready components that meet business and user needs.
- Drive accessibility compliance by identifying, troubleshooting, and remediating issues in alignment with WCAG standards and best practices.
- Ensure component reliability and performance through automated testing, cross-browser compatibility validation, and continuous quality improvements, with particular focus on Safari and macOS environments.
- Create documentation, implementation guidance, and development standards while supporting adoption of the design system across product teams.
Work model

Based on this role’s business requirements, this is a hybrid position requiring 4 days a week in a client or Cognizant office in Toronto, Ontario. What you need to have to be considered
- 5+ years of professional front-end development experience building modern web applications and user interfaces.
- Strong expertise in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and TypeScript, along with experience using modern front-end frameworks and development practices.
- Proven experience building, maintaining, and scaling reusable component libraries or enterprise design systems.
- Deep understanding of accessibility principles and hands-on experience implementing WCAG 2.1 and WCAG 2.2 standards.
- Strong knowledge of accessibility testing methodologies, remediation practices, and inclusive design principles.
- Experience resolving complex cross-browser compatibility challenges, particularly within Safari and macOS environments.
- Ability to translate Figma designs into scalable, maintainable, and production-ready components.
- Experience creating automated tests to ensure component quality, accessibility compliance, and regression prevention.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills with the ability to perform effective root-cause analysis.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a demonstrated ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.

- Familiarity with design tokens, component governance models, and design system adoption strategies.
- Experience conducting accessibility audits and leading remediation initiatives.
- Knowledge of responsive design principles, mobile-first development, and performance optimization techniques.
- Hands-on experience working closely with UX design teams to ensure design-to-code consistency.
- Experience developing developer tooling, documentation frameworks, or component showcases that improve adoption and developer experience.
- Understanding of design system architecture, versioning strategies, and release management processes.
- Familiarity with modern testing tools and frameworks used for accessibility, visual regression, and cross-browser testing.

Total compensation
We regularly assess market data to ensure we offer a competitive compensation package for our associates. The base salary for this position ranges between $81,500 – 95,500 per year. Where the successful candidate may fall within the range depends on relevant education, work and/or management experience and other business-related and job-necessary qualifications. This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual performance-based bonus, as well as benefits that support your physical, mental and financial wellbeing.
